I too married a California girl. Somehow, she's normal.
Somehow?

I swear, we complain about kids spending too much inside and yet adults delight in acting as if they’ve never been in the world.

The wife and I typically don't buy each other gifts for anniversaries--since we basically have everything we want we usually rather would spend that money on an experience together or something for the house.

Year 3 is supposed to be either leather (traditional) or glass (modern) themed, so we have a big dual-zone wine fridge with a nice big glass door coming, likely sometime next week.

I probably should get one, I had one, but I generally don't lay wine down for long.  I do have a few in regular wine racks waiting for the right time, but not as many as before.  I gave my wine fridge to the daughter.

We have a dorm fridge in my office I've never plugged in.  I have a semi-decent stereo sitting atop it I've never wired up.

I'd like to have one.  We have four refrigerators so generally have plenty of room for chilled wines.  And I have a massive wall system including floating cabinets and room-temp wine racks that I built in my dining room.

But having one of those dual-zone wine fridges that holds both at the correct temperature would be nice.

Two of my issues with our current wine storage:

  • Most of our "good" bottles are in a rack in the hall closet, and we forget about them. The way they're stored makes it impossible to figure out what we have unless we halfway unload it. So when we're trying to decide to open something nicer when we both drink wine, we either have to completely search out what we've got to make a decision, or we just pick something closer to the top.
  • We try not to run our a/c or heat, since CA is temperate. But I think for some of the nicer bottles of red wine, that means they're seeing more temp swings than probably is optimal. Could be 85+ inside the house in mid-afternoon, and then down to low 60s by the middle of the night... Day after day. That can't be good.

The hard thing will be acquiring enough wine to fill it lol...

Tomorrow I'm taking my 13 year old for his first "real" round of golf... We got him adult clubs for Christmas and we've hit the range a few times, but this will be the real thing. Granted, it's an 1115 yard 9 hole course. So it's not particularly challenging, which of course means it's perfect.

I escaped for a quick 9 before work this morning (actually after SOME work--cleared my inbox of critical crap first) over there. Played ugly. But I figured I needed a tune-up before taking him so he doesn't beat me!
