I'm working on an affordable housing project in Elgin, IL.

Elgin is not a great place for the most part, and even there we are getting all kinds of roadblocks.

We've been at it for 2.5 years, and haven't even gotten to a public meeting.

The City is making this close to impossible. I just think they don't want it. We are doing everything they ask, and the goalposts keep moving.

There are a lot of areas there with high crime and such. They have a riverboat casino that attracts a lot of riff raff. Infrastructure is crumbling. It's not easy to get to and there is a lot of traffic.

It's similar to a lot of the outlier cities outside of Chicago. Waukegan, Aurora, Joliet, etc.

Some nice spots, and some not so.

Fortunately, knock on wood, none of my family is dependent on life-saving drugs. So I don't follow the ins and outs of it closely. But can someone give me a cliff note version of what Mark Cuban is doing with his company? It seems like he is somehow both making money, and creating an affordable drug marketplace.

My initial take is there is a lot of money to be made of you are willing to (a) fuck the government, and (b) not take the most money you could make, in the name of public good.  Granted Cuban is one of the few who could make that bargain, and thread that needle?

4 shot on River North street corner; 2 more reported shot in Gold Coast; Woman shot on Near North Side - CWB Chicago

The govt interfering with housing in the first place is responsible for much of the housing in the first place. 

Not just the federal govt. state govts, city govt, etc. 

The only thing the govt should be doing IMO is making sure the market forces aren’t being artificially manipulated.

Phoenix is doing the opposite.  There's no affordable housing, and all they're doing is building new, luxury apartments.  It's so backwards.  I think 3 of the top 5 cities that have built the most new luxury apartments in the country this year are all Phoenix suburbs:  Gilbert, Chandler, and Scottsdale.
PHOENIX DOESN'T NEED ANY MORE LUXURY APARTMENTS, PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD THE EXISTING ONES!
