It's an interesting question, and at the root is whether these are student athletes or professionals, and I think we all likely agree on what the elite players are.

Imagine you are just a student, but elite, and some company comes calling and offers you a million a year if you will drop out and work for them, and you like the work.

Whoosh.

obviously, I suppose it could be similar if said elite student was working on a team project of some national merit and gave up on the team

and if the elite student wanted to come back to campus to reap the benefits of the facilities and the staff while pocketing the million

2 or 3 of my high school friends who probably make the most money of our crew now did exactly this.  They were doing well at UF, but were so good that they got poached by companies before completing their degrees.

I think it's a rare junior who would be of significant value to a hiring entity.  And they would be hard to find by a company, who likely won't even be looking.  We had minimum degree requirements for most job positions.  It gets you partially in the door, a door that would not exist for nondegreed people.

I think they were either interning already or part-time sidework.  If your employee is already very good at the job, why does he need that magical piece of paper that says he is?
A degree is evidence of some baseline of knowledge/ability in a field.....if you already have first-hand evidence with your own eyes, isn't that even better?

Yeah, I recall we had interns.  I was asked if I wanted one for a summer a few times, I always said no.  My friends who had them regretted their decisions.

But there could be the rare intern who would make a splash.  I know this is very common with engineers, a requirement most places. Anyway, our company required the piece of paper.  I was offered the job before I graduated, as is common, but it was contingent on getting the piece of paper.

That's because you worked for a stogie stick in the mud company.  Whenever you are in the downtown cincinnati area, you immediately recognize who works there.  They all look the same. Same style suit, same style tie, etc.  :57:

Most folks quit wearing ties when I was there.  That could have changed back I suppose.  I'm headed back Wednesday, the CSO conductor is departing and my wife wanted to see his last concert and wish him well.  Hotel rates have really jumped lately.

how long before a paid player is asked not to play or some other way to affect an outcome of the game?
