So are ooc games exhibitions also?
I have often on here since guys started opting out a bowl games wondered what the difference is between bowl games and late season games for teams that aren't in CFP contention.

I have no problem with guys opting out, but if Kenneth Walker is going to opt out of the Peach Bowl, why did he play in the season finale that solely determined if Michigan State was going to be in a new year six bowl that he wasn't going to play in?

I have also suggested replacing innersquad Spring Games with games against FCS opponents. And the counter is that coaches do not want to risk injury. Is a game that technically counts, but is really just a 50 point purchased win, in September more worth risking injury than one that doesn't count in April?  I'm assuming coaches treat those games as glorified scrimmages anyway, and aside from catastrophic knee injuries, any injuries suffered in early April, would impact your season less than one suffered in early September

OOC games are serious items for contenders obviously.  Imagine UGA had lost to Clemson last year.  They barely won.

I suppose for noncontenders, every game is irrelevant.  Why do Vandy players suit up ever?

I presume if a player "opts out", they are dropped from the team, right?  Ergo, scholarship monies stop.  If you don't plan to keep attending that is not an issue of course.

Right, I haven't heard of any underclassmen that plan on returning, opting out.  Typically only guys who are preparing for the NFL draft, or don't plan to return for other reasons.

It's the end of the semester?  And it affords the right amount of time to prep for the combine?

players opting out are still pampered by the programs

since they may be drafted and have a shot in the NFL, programs hope to use them as recruiting tools

they are still welcome in the facilities to work out and get treatment - meals and other benefits

invited to the "pro day" for NFL scouts

I'd rather see them committed to playing in the bowl game.

Otherwise the program should no longer be committed to them

Let their agent take care of them

Good luck recruiting.

perhaps a couple senators could introduce a bill to level the recruiting playing field

have all players that opt out of silly exhibitions banned from campus

Then you'd have a lot of "hamstring pulls" 3 minutes into the games....

Right, keeping in shape for the combine and getting to travel with your boys.

well, if they're your boys

if they are not and you're just a selfish pig grabbing the agent's $$$, then have your agent take care of you
