If Bielema wins at Illinois, he could hold the position of, Iowa's future coach, all over again.
IMO he'd have to keep his mouth shut and have the Illini punch above their weight, instead of the other way around as it appeared in Fayetteville

The Nebraska football team is 90% vaccinated, AD Trev Alberts said Wednesday night: "Our student-athlete population has done a wonderful job of getting themselves vaccinated."

The Athletic Department will implement the following policies for events through Sept. 30. The policies have been reviewed by the LLCHD.

Memorial Stadium (Football)
Nebraska fans attending September home games against Fordham (Sept. 4) and Buffalo (Sept. 11) are strongly encouraged to wear an appropriate face covering (covering both the nose and mouth) when on campus property.  The new Directed Health Measure will apply to various spaces in Memorial Stadium as follows:

Concourses – Masks are strongly recommended in concourse spaces
Lobbies – Masks are strongly recommended upon entry and required when utilizing elevators or in common indoor premium spaces
Elevators – Masks are required when using an elevator
Suites – Masks are strongly recommended for this cohort group when inside the respective suite and required when outside in the hallways and lobbies of the suite level
Club Areas – Masks strongly recommended when sitting in the outdoor seats and required when inside the indoor portion of the club level
Press Box – Masks are required by media and other personnel on this indoor level
Seating Bowl – Masks are strongly recommended in any seating area outdoors

I have no doubt of that but it isn't just because of the antics, it is also due to lowered expectations.

Osborne coached Nebraska from 1973-1997 and over those 25 years the Cornhuskers had the #1 winning percentage in all of college football* then they capped it off with three NC's in Osborne's last four years.

The coaches who came shortly after that run were naturally compared to that and that is a REALLY high bar.  This week the Cornhuskers will be starting their 24th season of the post-Osborne era.  Ie, Osborne has been retired from Nebraska for almost as long as he was HC at Nebraska.

*For reference the top winning percentages from 1973-1997 were:
  • Nebraska
  • Penn State
  • Michigan
  • Alabama
  • Ohio State
  • Oklahoma
  • BYU
  • FSU
  • Notre Dame
  • Miami, FL

Yeah, Pelini was a rock star at Nebraska during the post-Osborne era, and in large part it was because of his "antics."

But the Cornhusker fans didn't see it that way, which is a major part of the reason that they won't admit that they secretly wish that they hadn't Shanghaied him out of town, like some of them occasionally will do for Frank Solich.

I thought I  read that Illinois' O-Line was expected to do well this year. The 1st half their O-Line was awful. Bielema made some adjustments by adding quick pitches around end, bubble screen, a sort of reverse or possibly statue of liberty type play, and it somewhat loosened up the Nebraska D-Line in the second half.

I thought the Nebraska D-Line played well.

Adrian Martinez makes great plays, but the bad plays he is involved in more than make up for the good plays. He has too many turnovers, and too many missed passes, and then he makes the great pass, or the great run. We are all mesmerized by his super plays, but consistently throughout his career, his bad plays are very hurtful.

Is he the best QB in the Cornhuskers have? It might be time to look to the future if there is a bench player that is arguably close to Adrian Martinez's talent.

Very sad to see.
The Huskers looked fundamentally unsound, meaning badly coached.
Adrian Martinez is a turnover machine.
And who misses 2 out of 3 PATs?

Well it looks like there are three teams now that still use the old huddle while calling plays, Iowa, Wisconsin and Wisconsin 2.0 (Illinois).

Scott Frost didn’t have his team ready, in one of Nebraska’s few opportunities to win a game this season. I know it is probably very hard to get good players to come out to Nebraska, but Illinois is going through a coaching transition, without a blue-chip roster (so, no excuses). For a little while, the Nebraska Defense looked impressive, but that got lost in the ineptitude of the offense. Nebraska looked flat and played sloppy, so they deserved to get beaten by the Illini. Illinois seemed to have more energy than the sluggish Nebraska team, who need to improve immediately, or face a long, disappointing season.
