Colorado and Nebraska are probably in the worst shape they've ever been in.

Missouri will not win another division title, after stealing a couple early on.

aTm recruits like crazy but does not perform like it. Probably not going to win a division anytime soon. Better chance than Missouri though. Nick can't be around forever.

But they all made more money!

Well, Colorado is making significantly less, actually.  And after paying buyout penalties and taking unequal B1G revenue sharing portions for many years, Nebraska finally broke even a couple of years ago.

But still...

nope

still recruiting at the same level

still getting kids from Texas, not quite as many but filling in from other states with the same level of kids

recruiting nearly as well as Wisconsin and better than the rest of the West, just not developing talent

O-line recruiting has been solid, O-line play has be terrible

If Nebraska was still in the 12, they'd have a very similar record the past 5 seasons, just losing to Iowa St, Okie St., Baylor, K-State, and Texas Tech

I suppose if Texas had jumped to the Big Ten, they'd be addressing the same question.

yup, they have been recruiting at a very high level forever

but, similar to the Huskers, the wins aren't following

they seem to look stronger so far this season with their battle vs Bama

Jeez, you said it.  100% true.  The sad thing is that it's not really anything unexpected with A&M/Bama or LSU.  We're probably .500 vs the Mississippi schools at this point.  Hell, maybe less.  Lost a lot to them.  And they haven't even really been that good.

The first thing you have to understand about A&M is that it's a very difficult place to win big. There's a lot of reasons for why that is, and a lot of reasons why it shouldn't be.  But it just is.  For now.  

 It's easy to be mediocre here, you can probably go 8-4 or 7-5 every season with little effort for eternity.  Occasionally a 10-11 win season.  We have basically never recruited out of the top 25, often in the top 10, yet we finish unranked as many years as we do.  We've had exactly one top 5 finish in ~50 years, a handful of top 10 finishes, and a bunch of top 25 finishes.  

There was a post a few days ago comparing Jimbo's first 5 seasons with our former coach, Kevin Sumlin.  Almost identical results.  Sumlin had maybe one more win, and a few more losses due to the COVID shortened season.  

My feel is that the general fanbase is still behind Jimbo and feels that he is just now getting started.  Obviously we've had stellar recruiting for the last few years, and a very good 2020 that most feel we were kinda screwed over with regards to the playoff and a chance to go further than we ever have.

All the tools are there.  Big fanbase.  Plenty of money.  100,000+ seat stadium, recruiting facilities, the whole gauntlet.  We've had plenty of talent here, #1 draft picks and lots of 1st rounders.  



Our contemporaries, IMO out of that non-blue chip category would be maybe the Clemsons, FSU, and maybe even LSU and Florida.  We've won 18 conference championships, so we're not some Texas Tech type program.  All of these programs have won big over the last 20-30 years.  If you look at our record during that time we've never strung together more than one great season.  I can't honestly say why.  

I feel that is why we locked in Jimbo for so long for so much. So that even if he has a bad season or two we can't afford to switch.  He's a proven winner, he was considered one of the best coaches when we brought him on board.  

So thick or thin, he will be our guy for at least 5 more years.
