It doesn't. If anything noon has gained more prestige than it had in the 2000s. Not by technically improving but because the other slots (3:30 and primetimes) have been so severely diluted by trash games they didn't have before.
I used to want 3:30 games because they "looked good." Now I want noon because I hate the wait and sometimes want to have the rest of the day for life.

Oddly enough, I like the noon games because living out here on the West Coast, where those games kick at 9 AM, I truly do have the rest of the day.
Last weekend I got to watch Purdue dismantle BC, with the knowledge that my wife and I had to leave the house at 1:15 PM to help set up for a friend's party. If it had been a 3:30 kick, I'd have missed it.
Luckily this week I have nothing planned, so I can deal with the 12:30 PT Purdue game.
