My daughter has a softball tournament in Columbus this weekend and I’m looking for some places to grab a bite and hang out afterwards.  Nothing too fancy.  Just some cool places to grab a bite and watch a little football.

There used to some neat places in Germantown and the strip between campus and downtown.

Hofbrauhaus is a place I always enjoyed.  It's a German style place, and while technically it is a chain, there are only 6 locations in the US.

On Friday (September 23)'s episode of the hit television show, viewers can watch the show's host, Columbus-born restauranteur Guy Fieri, visit downtown Columbus' Pierogi Mountain. The Polish restaurant is known for its comfort food, including pierogi, house-made sausages, banh mi and more.
According to a social media post from the restaurant, the episode was filmed in February and will premiere on Friday at 9 p.m. In addition, Pierogi Mountain said they will be closing at 8 p.m. the same day “for some much needed rest and a little self-congratulations.” Check out the restaurant's full Instagram post announcing the episode below.
This isn't the first time Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives has featured Pierogi Mountain. In fact, this is the second time the restaurant, which is located at 105 North Grant Avenue in Columbus,__ has been on the show. Pierogi Mountain was first visited by the mayor of Flavortown and appeared in the series in 2017.
In addition, the show has made stops at several other Columbus eateries, including Ena's Caribbean Kitchen, Momo Ghar, Ray Ray's Hot Pit, Loops and Sweet Carrot.

Loops is overrated.  Stay away from that one.  Ray-Ray's at Land-Grant is great, but the weather may not cooperate.

You are literally a few blocks from German village. Just head east on Greenlawn Ave. to High St. There are a few places around that neighborhood. 

The Thurman Cafe is one of my favorite burger joints. But it is very small and usually has a long wait to get in. Schmidt's Sausage Haus was another favorite of mine years ago, but not sure what it is like these days. The last time I was there was during Covid and I didn't want to wait to get in.

South side, eh? Not my area of expertise, but yes ud be looking at downtown and German Village. You don't wanna eat anywhere else around there.

Thurman's is probably going to be a super long wait.  You really have to go at lunch on a week day to get in within a reasonable time.  I like Schmidt's and went there my last time in Columbus.  I showed up on a Sunday at lunch without a reservation and the wait was only like 10 minutes.  I'd recommend going there based on where you're situated.

When I took my son up for an OSU basketball game, we stayed up in the Easton area, and the Rusty Bucket had solid bar food, with a kids a menu, and a lot of beers on tap

Been years since I have been to either, but Schmidt's and Thurman are both great choices
