In the 2019 Conference RPI the Big Ten ranked 7th out of 31 Conferences.

That puts them ahead of quite a few southern conferences.

B1G sucks at baseball, because baseball starts when there is still snow on the ground.
Exactly. Same reason B1G sucks at golf, because the schools that field great golf teams are the ones where weather allows you to play year-round.

MSU might be better at golf than any other non-revenue sport.  I think the women have made the NCAA tournament like 10 consecutive years, and advanced to the finals a number of those times.  The men haven't been quite as good recently, but nearly won a national title one year when I was there.  I think they finished #5 nationally.

Golf and men's soccer (which has been to 4 Elite 8s, including a Final 4 in the past 6-7 years) have been basically it.  They've sucked at everything else.  They had a couple decent volleyball teams, but largely bad; terrible at track, swimming and diving, field hockey, softball, etc...

Purdue actually won a NC in women's golf recently.

I'm not saying it's impossible to be good... Especially in golf which [like basketball] is a pretty small team so a couple of great players can turn the tide.

There's a lot more that teams can do now in the world of indoor launch monitors and the like so that teams can still practice during the off-season.

But any college in a place with winter has much more of an uphill battle than someplace where the courses are playable year-round.

It's not impossible, just much harder.

It is a good thing that Jack Nicklaus attended a southern school. Otherwise he might not hold the majors record.

I'm all for celebrating, but he nearly took out his teammates with his bat and his helmet

Florida lost to a .500 team, so that's fun.

That was surprising.  Internet rumors that LSU is currently making a run at your coach and he is distracted.  I believe that about as much as I believe any other internet rumor...

I made it for about half of the Texas game yesterday afternoon, it was great to be at the ballpark with full attendance allowed.  Horns looked pretty good, but against a woefully overmatched opponent.  Tonight's game against ASU is gonna be a tough one and could certainly go either way.

Where oh where is @DevilFroggy ?

Oh great. Now he's going to be watching the game on his phone while he is supposed to be engineering.

I've heard very much that LSU is making a run at their coach. I don't know if that means he's distracted, because frankly, it's baseball.

I know the last time another big program made a run at their coach, he kept putting it off until they lost in the tournament. They they won the whole thing.

I once talked to a mid-major college baseball coach in the midwest. He said the south is basically playing a different sport.

I also remember watching a women's golfer I knew at UW miss every Thursday-Friday class for like a month.

Oh I believe that LSU is pursuing O'Sullivan.  Just don't think it would really have much to do with the outcome of a game.

Baseball's a funny sport.  Great teams lose to lesser ones pretty regularly.  It's precisely why they usually play a series against an opponent rather than a single game.  Tournaments are obviously different.
