It's the end of an era.  I'm not sure why they wouldn't wait until later in the season but there you have it.

Get an early search started for a replacement, wonder if Jim Knowles would be interested in returning.Problem there would be not much left to fund the portal pirates if they did,still that name is gonna be bantered about

Only works if you have a coach.  Recruits aren't going anywhere without knowing who the coach is going to be.

And all of the coaches they'd be interested in, currently have jobs that they're not likely to shuck off this early in the season.

Don't think it's really possible to lie to kids like that anymore.  When their peers who are already on the team are shopping themselves out to new programs, everybody knows what's up.  It's a new day, nothing is the way it was 20 years ago, or even 5 years ago.
