Interesting that we have a weather delay in the FSU-GT game.  Let's compare that to covid reactions....

Is anyone likely to be struck by lightning?  No.
Even in a storm, sitting in a stadium with metal bleachers....how many people have died from a lightning strike?

Yet there's an 8-mile circle around the stadium and if there's even ONE lightning strike within that circle, immediate 30-minute delay.

I'd posit that it's a much more radical, statistical overreach than any and all covid measures.  No?

Uab did study this recently I recall.    Anyways, an entire soccer team in the Congo was killed by a lightning strike in the late 90s.  A match in England last year had 4 players injured in a strike.  A fan died at US Open in 80s at Hazeltine.  100 people were injured in a 1880s baseball game,  nobody died though. Just remembering these instances.  Im not playing a game of gotcha vis a vis CV but only noting there's a laundry list of strikes injuring or killing folks.  Risks and liability doctrine is quite developed on lightning strikes.  Same reason I go to basement every T warning.

Measuring risk is quite interesting.  Great book on this by poker player, Annie Duke, Thinking in Bets.  Id love to hear her commentary on some of this.

Not to mention, the response to both Covid and bad Weather involve taking the necessary precautions, and in both cases those precautions can involve postponement.

Not sure how exactly that makes them "different" or "opposite."

If anything, it suggests that they are consistent.

Clemson isn't beating WF nearly as badly as Oklahoma is beating Missouri State.

No, just glancing at the scores on the internet like it was the 20-ots.

Ok,this was it, it was actually Mississippi State which published the study. The link here to the news site has a link to the 2014 study of lightning strikes during 2001 to 2011.  Not surprisingly,  states in the SE have the most lightning strikes.   There's an SEC speed joke in there somewhere.  If interested.  I also just recalled that herbie Hancock concert in the 90s in DC at RFK, where a bunch of people were struck during the concert.  Is it overreacting to vacate like this?  I don't know, I'm inclined to think it is prudent, but as I've admitted I am humble in the face of severe weather.  Seen too much to behave any other way.   Its like a roulette wheel only there's several spins every minute.

Kansas is getting blown out by Coastal Carolina.

Texas Tech appears as though they are barely going to survive Houston Baptist.

The Jayhawks avoid the shutout with a FG right before halftime.

I am an attorney. I have litigated the last 3-seconds of someone's life, for 3-years. One of my best high school buddies was killed by a lightening strike shortly after graduating from college. There is a reason for lightening safety measures that are well-understood. There is also enough data on COVID-19 to know what prevents it, and actions that promote its spread.

Just looked at the scores. Yep. No games worth turning the tube on.
I greatly enjoyed the Texas game.

On to the next one.

I was surprised to see as many fans in the stands as they had

I know they had cardboard fans also but there were a lot of real fans too

in two weeks we are supposed to get the band back as of right now

also the main offensive take I had was throwing the ball north and south instead of all the sideline passes they did last year
