Swimming and diving is also dominated by the south and west.  Michigan has a couple in the last 50 years, in 2013 and 1995, but beyond that you have to go all the way back to 1973 to find a successful northern team.

That was Indiana, who actually rattled off an impressive 6 in a row, from 1968-1973.

Tennessee lost their first series and dropped from 2 to 3, I think.

SEC!  SEC!  SEC!

Kidding aside, their pitching staff is supposed to be insanely good this year.  We'll see if they can live up to it.

Horns dropped all three to various SEC teams in a season-opening tournament in Arlington.

Clearly not SEC-ready. ~???

If the polls were to be believed, Arkansas and Vanderbilt are top 10 teams, so perhaps no major concerns there.

We lost the majority of last year's CWS team, including the 2022 College Baseball Player of the Year, so we aren't expected to be all that great this year.  Certainly, not this early in the season.

But that's another great thing that I love about college baseball.  There are so many games and series, and there's a true tournament at the end of the season, so you can afford to schedule tough teams early and often, and not completely crater your team's chances at the end of the season.

I love playing top competition in big intersectional matchups, the games are more fun.  I love that we have Arkansas and Vanderbilt and Cal State Fullerton and LSU and Texas A&M on the schedule, in addition to our normal B12 slate of pretty tough competition.

No more, ever?  Nah.

This year's unlikely.

MSU had a solid 3-1 start to the season out in Arizona, including a 15-8 win over Michigan.  Also beat Fresno State and Grand Canyon, with the lone loss coming to Arizona in the second half of a doubleheader

Next 3 weekends are in South Carolina, before heading north March 16.

Typically they play one southern series against a decent school, but that doesn't appear to be the case this year.  Four different weekend showcases, with Arizona and Kansas being the only other P5 participants.  Could wind up a fairly unimpressive 11-5

Not to piss in the SEC-chant cornflakes, but LSU just got hammered by a B1G team.

We'll all still go 35-25 and get to host regionals.
For all the good it has, college baseball is a very consistent sport year-to-year.

Horns have squeaked out a couple of relatively close ones against our own B1G team in Austin this weekend.  We'll see if they can complete the sweep today, and then we get to host your Geaux Tigers on Tuesday.

volleyball was once dominated by the west coast

now it's the rust belt
well, except for a volleyball program in Austin
