Sweet Jesus.

The beach is like 25 miles east.  Yes, it's also 80 miles west, because peninsula!  But save some money on gas, will ya?
Water is warmer on the Gulf side, that far North. On the East side it's warmer but only around West Palm because of...

the Gulf stream being so close to land there.

Last time my family went to mouse-world we rented a big house for the week, and all the backyards in that neighborhood had big nets encasing them, to keep gators out, we were told.  It was kinda weird at first, but then I got used to it and it was a pleasant enough back-yard experience.  The pool and hot tub were nice, and I guess you don't want to come home after a long day of mousing and find a gator swimming in the pool with you.  It occurred to me that if they could get in the back yard, they could be in the front yards too, or on the streets, which are obviously open to any Florida mascots who are looking for dinner.  Never saw any, though.

Never saw nets around yards on the bayou back in LA.

I thought those were mosquito nets?  My sister had one in her backyard when she lived in Merritt Island, FL.

I can't imagine one of those nets would stop a gator if he were hungry.

That was quite a few years ago, so I'm not sure I remember the nets accurately enough, but in my mind it doesn't seem like the mesh was small enough to keep mosquitoes out.  As for Gators, that's what somebody said, but people are stupid and frequently wrong, so there's that.

I don't know about nets stopping Gators.  I've been around my fair share of the Louisiana variety and they never seemed very aggressive (thankfully).  I always thought they could easily overturn the small boats people go amongst them in with some thrashing, or possibly get in them (I'm talking about very small boats, basically slightly larger canoes).  But they never did.  They just kinda sit there grinning, encouraging you to get in the water with them, they're perfectly friendly, as if we're going to fall for that.  Gators are stupid, but they are Florida fans, after all.

I'm stumbled upon a few on land, and again, thankfully, they were not aggressive, or I probably wouldn't be here.  So if the nets were only for mosquitoes, I guess I could see them still keeping Gators out?  Dunno.  I'm no gator expert and certainly not an Orlando suburb expert.  You may well be right.

That's nice-looking.  Quite an upgrade and somewhat different than the set-up where we rented, from what I remember.  It was 18 years ago now, though.
