That was quite a few years ago, so I'm not sure I remember the nets accurately enough, but in my mind it doesn't seem like the mesh was small enough to keep mosquitoes out. As for Gators, that's what somebody said, but people are stupid and frequently wrong, so there's that.
I don't know about nets stopping Gators. I've been around my fair share of the Louisiana variety and they never seemed very aggressive (thankfully). I always thought they could easily overturn the small boats people go amongst them in with some thrashing, or possibly get in them (I'm talking about very small boats, basically slightly larger canoes). But they never did. They just kinda sit there grinning, encouraging you to get in the water with them, they're perfectly friendly, as if we're going to fall for that. Gators are stupid, but they are Florida fans, after all.
I'm stumbled upon a few on land, and again, thankfully, they were not aggressive, or I probably wouldn't be here. So if the nets were only for mosquitoes, I guess I could see them still keeping Gators out? Dunno. I'm no gator expert and certainly not an Orlando suburb expert. You may well be right.
