The picks on defense are essentially all from Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan. Going by name I can't really fault any of those, but I'm expecting MSU to have a Top 12-20 defense and am wondering who we left of. Dowell - Who else? IU could also be under-represented.

Defensive 1st and 2nd teamers
Michigan - 6 (4 firsters, 2 on second)
Wisconsin - 4 (4,0)
Ohio State - (3,0)
Northwestern (0,2)
MSU (0,1)
Nebraska  (0,1)
Iowa  (0,1)
Purdue  (0,1)
Penn State  (0,1)
Minnesota  (0,1)
Indiana  (0,1)

I think that's also the nature of the hard cutoff, where if you aren't one of the 4 best DEs, it's all the same, so #5 is the same as #50.  I don't think I'm being overly homeristic in saying I think MSU has the best player left off at 4 of the 5 positions: DE (Willikes), DT (Williams), CB (Scott) and S (Dowell).  I'm not saying I disagree with the players selected.  I voted Dowell, but I don't think I voted for any of the other 3 (maybe Williams).  I think MSU wound up with the 5th best player in the conference at four positions where we only took 4.

FWIW, to support that isn't just me being a homer, Athlon, which is the only publication I'm aware of that went through 3 teams of preseason all-conference teams had Willikes and Dowell both on their 2nd team, and Scott on their 3rd team.  They didn't have Williams, but they didn't differentiate between DE/DT, so of the 12 DL in their preseason honors, only 3 were classified as DT for voting purposes here, the other 9 were DEs.

That fits what I was thinking. The Big Ten is as logjammed on defense as ever. It may be most stark at DE, but it really extends to all positions. LBs for sure.

And the opposing passer ratings for these corners, including Scott who didn't make it...bananas.

The secondaries in the conference this year have a chance to be absurd, that's for sure.

The fact that this might be the deepest the conference has been at the QB position in recent memory should make for some good PFF reading on who is actually coming out ahead in these battles.
