Hello Harbaugh!!!!

Nebraska and Michigan will square off each season from 2022 to 2025, with the Wolverines visiting Memorial Stadium in 2023 and 2025, and Nebraska traveling to Ann Arbor in 2022 and 2024.

After concluding the 2020 and 2021 conference seasons with matchups with Minnesota, the Huskers and Iowa will conclude their regular season against each other on Black Friday each year from 2022 to 2025. The border rivals have met on Black Friday since Nebraska joined the Big Ten in 2011, and will do so in 2018 and 2019.

First few thoughts:

1.  Looks like rotation will continue in place for MSU, PSU, Rutgers, and Maryland, but this is confirmation western divison rotation will only be a 2 year thing.

2.  Looks like they are continuing to have locked crossovers for 6 years at a time, but may have modified a bit.  2nd round of locked crossovers (for a 6 year period) seem to be: OSU/Wisconsin, Michigan/Nebraska, Penn State/Illinois, Maryland/Northwestern, Rutgers/Iowa, and Michigan State/Minnesota.

3.  Made a big deal about Nebraska playing on Friday.  Past schedules put everything on Saturday and then move games later.  Likely to make clear to Nebraska fans after plan was to move to Saturday they  listed black Friday despite not listing any other friday (which unfortunately, there likely will be).

4. On Ohio State end, we open with Illinois the one year we play them.  That means since going to 9 games, they have either been the first or second to last conference game every time we have played (our only trophy game).

5.  Only schedule particurally dislike is last one.  Penn State, Michigan State, and Michigan to end season is a bit backloaded.

I don't know if the schedule makers did this to everyone else too, but Ohio State gets what appear to be clumps of difficult opponents in EVERY schedule of this four year group:
2022:
Ohio State opens with back-to-back road games against MSU and PSU.
2023:
Ohio State travels to Wisconsin a week after hosting Penn State.
2024:
Ohio State hosts Michigan a week after travelling to MSU.
2025:
After the first six conference games Ohio State gets a bye, then closes out the regular season with PSU, MSU, @M.
Yikes, that 2025 ending is brutal.  It gets just silly if the Buckeyes have a really good year with a B1GCG and CFP appearance.  That season could close with back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back games of:
  • vs Penn State
  • vs Michigan State
  • @ Michigan
  • B1GCG
  • CFP semi-final
  • CFP Championship
That is insane.

Ya know, there is a reason that a lot of SEC teams stick an FCS or low-end FBS game in right before rivalry week.

For example, this year:
  • Alabama hosts the Citadel the week before Auburn
  • Auburn hosts Liberty the week before Alabama
  • Florida hosts Idaho the week before FSU
  • Georgia hosts UMASS the week before GaTech
  • Kentucky hosts MTSU the week before Louisville
  • LSU hosts Rice the week before aTm
  • Ole Miss gets Vandy the week before MissSt
  • USCe hosts Chattanooga the week before Clemson
  • aTm hosts UAB the week before LSU

I suspect even this schedule will change.

Article in the Des Moines Register yesterday had Iowa's A.D. discussing paying $1M to Northern Illinois for its appearance in Iowa City, and says this is the practice throughout the Big Ten -- $1M payouts for a visiting FBS team with no return visit to their home stadium. Iowa's A.D. now favors a 10-game Big Ten schedule due to the cost of scheduling nonconference games.

Not sure how Big Ten gates are divided, and how a 10-game conference schedule would play out financially. If one school is proposing this, I would guess others are discussing it, as well.

I prefer the current fixed crossovers.
I personally wish they would do away with them entirely.  While a pure rotation might not be possible with locking Purdue/Indiana, they could make close enough.
That said, if they are going to lock, I prefer they keep rotating.  Nebraska is not a traditional team on our schedule and while they are good to play, I 1/3, with them locked in, a 1/3 our conference schedule wasn't in the conference before 2010, 4/9 weren't in the 1980s, and better than half wasn't in for the first 50 years we were in the conference.  Don't get me wrong, I want to play those teams too, but I want to be playing the teams we have played most over the last century more too.  Rotating to Wisconsin and then presumably someone else will help give us streaks with those teams again.  Ideally, I'd say make Illinois next after the next 6 year period.
I personally will be very surprised if we go to 10.  The 7 home games almost every year is still going to be a push, especially for the bigger schools and they are still going to want to be able to schedule a home and home out of conference.  I would personally vote for 10 games.  I just would be very surprised.

The game in Lincoln will be a $1.17 million payday for Akron, according to this USA Today report.
I'm all for 10 conference games

so in 2024... UNL gets to play @Mich, OSU and @ PSU.   Wisconsin plays the same 3 teams, but Iowa as @ Rutgers, @ Indiana  and Maryland.

I'll take the under on wins for Wisconsin in 2024. Drew UM, PSU, and OSU all in the same year.
