Sounds like Minnesota is going to make a bowl at 5-7. They are not going to wait until after the Army-Navy game this year to see if Navy gets 6 wins.  So that must mean Navy had to have 6 wins before the Army-Navy game to be bowl elligible.  One of the trade offs of scheduling a game a week after Bowl Selection Sunday.

Of course, I guess if one team drops out later because of Covid or whatever,  then I guess the bowl could take Navy then.
They need to re-think this position and play on Friday or Saturday of CCG weekend.

Teams have opted out because they've felt bowls were below them.  Maybe a school who has already fired their coach, like Texas A&M, opts out.

But if you can still get out of shit by claiming COVID, my next month just opened WIDE up

Opting out for COVID has happened, but are there examples of teams opting out for no reasons at all?

It seems unlikely to me, since the conference has a contract negotiated with each bowl, and a school opting out would represent a breach of contract.  The conference itself really can't allow schools to just opt out for no reason.

Notre Dame said they were above the Copper Bowl one year.  North Carolina just opted out of the NIT last year.

It used to be unthinkable that you would fire a coach who just got you to a bowl, but I'm guessing that will be happening, now that it is a thing.  How many Texas A&M kids are going to be in the portal.  Do they even have a coaching staff?  Those guys need to be interviewing for their next job.  Hell, same for Duke and Oregon State.

Once again about the stupidity about a sport where 95% of your schools ceiling is being good enough to be an Oregon State or Duke, where you play in an exhibition game, with your coach already gone, and every good player skipping

I know the PAC-12 has a rule that no 5-7 team will accept a bowl bid even if they are the next APR team in line.  Doesn't matter this year (or any year after this).

Wisconsin took that spot. We went to the game. Bowls were fun back then.

May be an image of 4 people, people golfing and text that says 'SKOR NORTH + Patrick Reusse 247 Sports with a sense of humor has Gophers playing Kill's New Mexico (10-3 in New Mexico Bowl (which is supposed to take a Mountain West team). It also has Notre Dame playing Brian Kelly bowl (now called Riaquest). LSU in Tampa'

Kill coaches New Mexico State, not New Mexico.

New Mexico is in the Mountain West.

The humor being the caliber of writers you get when your business model is largely based on selling subscriptions to fan bases who exclusively want to read what are essentially forum posts, but by "media".  Media just being fan boys, who makes their posts as articles for like a $15k salary, and no access other than what they are fed

No joke, anyone here could be the Rivals/Scout/247/On3 writer for their team.  They just pay fan boys to keep the true believers happy.  I think how behind every turn in this story the Michigan media slappys have been has proven

Granted that's all media is at this point.  Just appeasing your existing audience

The Lobos are 4-8, and just fired their HC.
