Big Ten All-Decade Teams
« on: June 11, 2020, 04:59:01 PM »
Was hoping to get these kicked off earlier, but they are starting Monday.

Can't believe it's been 10 years.

Only rules, had to play two seasons in the 2010-2019 period, and had to play at least one season in the Big Ten.

One question and one comment:

Question: When we say play, do we mean just on a roster or having more than a little effect? Like Dwayne Haskins spent three years on campus, but only played one and a quarter against Michigan. Is he one that counts?

Comment: JT Barrett for QB, just to create Chaos. (No, I won't actually vote for him)

if it's an All-B1G team, I think they should've played at least 2 years in the B1G.

why 2 years?

if a player played in the decade they should count. burrow, for example, had he played this season (2020) should be in running for the 20's decade all sec even though he only played 1 season in 20's.

My thought was simply not to eliminate Nebraska's 2011 seniors; or Maryland or Rutgers' 2014 seniors, but I hadn't considered the transfer issue.  Like Justin Fields played two years in the decade, but only one in the Big Ten

2011 was the Husker's most talented Big Ten team, but I don't think any players are going to be considered all-decade

Lavonte David the Big Ten Linebacker of the year would be possibly considered

Abdullah was a frosh, Burkhead was solid, not great, Maher was a good kicker

For Penn State I'd probably have to go with Saquon Barkley (RB), Allen Robinson (WR), Trace McSorely (QB), Carl Nassib (DL), Stefen Wisniewski (OL)

Edit:  Sean Lee (LB)

So I know for the preseason and postseason ones you use official Big Ten lists, right?

How do you select the nominees for this?

Russell Wilson was one I was thinking of. He's in the camp with those OSU QBs.

Interestingly, the three QBs with the highest highs of the decade only have one awesome starting season (to date). The next highest rated QB for a season from the decade was Barrett (as a freshman), who's pros and cons we've dissected to death. Then you have McSorley, who peaked as a sophomore, but also played a big role in bringing back a program.

so, is the all-decade team a greatest season award or a greatest career award?

one season or 3, 4, or 5 seasons?

:96:  How dare you.

I assume "All-Decade" means different things to different people.

For me, I think volume matters - the guy who was good for 3 years > the guy who had 1 great season

But I also think the best individual seasons during a decade makes sense, too.  But either way, consistency is probably best.
