My rankings:

  • Ohio State:  Until proven otherwise
  • Indiana:  I've been a little hesitant to move them up this high but with the win over UW and their only loss being by just a TD to #1, they are now #2.
  • Iowa:  They are oh-so-close to 7-0.
  • Wisconsin:  I don't know how they lost to NU, but I don't think it would happen again if the game was played over.
  • Northwestern:  Last among the top group because that loss to my #14 is just awful.
  • Penn State:  I've thought all along that they were better than their record and now they appear to be playing like it again.
  • Maryland:  Mostly because they only have two losses but also because their win over PSU is very good.
  • Illinois:  In their last three games they have two wins and a reasonably competitive loss to my #3.
  • Nebraska:  I think this team in improving.  I can't explain the IL loss but since then they have played close with IA and defeated PU.
  • Minnesota:  Who knows.
  • Rutgers:  The bad loss to PSU looked very "normal Rutgers".
  • Michigan:  There is WAY too much talent in Ann Arbor for this team to be this bad.
  • Purdue:  This is largely based on recency.   Their two wins and, BY FAR their two best games were long ago.
  • Michigan State:  They have probably the best win of this 6-14 group but the rest of their resume is awful.

Average of 4.42:
  • Purdue:  First of seven against IA (1.0), third of six against NU (3.5), fourth of six against IL (4.5), fourth of five against MN (5.0), sixth of seven against RU (6.0), sixth of six against UNL (6.5).

So if we ranked by this it would be:
  • 1.80 Ohio State
  • 2.79 Iowa
  • 2.88 Wisconsin
  • 3.21 Indiana
  • 3.50 Northwestern
  • 4.00 Penn State
  • 4.08 Nebraska
  • 4.25 Maryland
  • 4.42 Purdue
  • 4.60 Minnesota
  • 4.67 Illinois
  • 4.86 Rutgers
  • 5.08 Michigan
  • 5.50 Michigan State

Take out the Iowa game, which again looks like the outlier, and Purdue would have a 5.1 average among the rest, good for 13th place.

That sounds closer to right at this point.

That is where I ranked them, and for that reason.  That Iowa game was long ago and I don't think ANYBODY would pick PU to beat Iowa on a neutral field at this point.  I'm still not sure what happened to Purdue and it might not be that they regressed just that everybody else progressed and they didn't.

Waiting for clarification here @LetsGoPeay :  Did you mean:
  • #8 Nebraska
  • #13 Minnesota
Or did you mean:
  • #8 Minnesota
  • #13 Nebraska?

Fifteen voters so far which is good.  I'm waiting for clarification from @LetsGoPeay and I haven't removed the high and low yet but it is looking like it is going to be:

  • tOSU - unanimous
  • IU - nearly unanimous
  • NU - but very close to
  • IA
  • UW by a large margin over
  • UMD - close to
  • PSU - fairly close to
  • UNL - by a HUGE margin over
  • MN - very close to
  • IL - very close to
  • PU - then a bigger gap over
  • M - very close to
  • MSU - then a bigger gap over
  • RU

Oops. Minnesota at 8.  Or can I just vote everyone below Wisconsin as a tie for 6th?

well, if we're allowed.....

I'd like to remove the Illinois game from the Husker's cornsideration

Ok, I marked it that way.

I get what you mean about the nine-way tie for 6th-14th.

There are two pretty big differences:
  • Bwar is taking out his team's BEST performance while you are trying to take out your team's worst.
  • PU/IA was week-1, UNL/IL was not long ago.

If you take out the last 5 Purdue games, we're doing better against the rest of the conference than even OSU!
