1. Michigan - see no reason to move them off #1. yet.
2. Penn State - made a climb to #2 with the impressive debut of Allar at QB.
3. Ohio State - for the first time in a long time, they do not have the best QB in the B1G.
4. Wisconsin - still working out passing new QB kinks, run game is impressive.
5. Iowa - still need a lot more from the offense, defense is legit.
6. Maryland - here by default.
7. Minnesota -  here by default.
8. Michigan State - first half was bad. second half much better.
9. Illinois - could make a case for being lower after that display vs Toledo.
10. Nebraska - offense is pretty bad. defense looks improved though.
11. Rutgers - at least they aren't the worst team in the league this year!
12. Purdue - Card looks good, defense looks bad.
13. Indiana - they stink.
14. Northwestern - stick a fork in them.

  • Penn State - Looked very good on both sides of the ball. Let's see if this continues.
  • Michigan - Hard to glean much from a game against ECU, but the defense looked good and the offense looked competent.
  • Ohio State - The defense looks like they are not missing assignments like they did last year. The offense had problems running the ball. I suspect that the O-Line will be an area of focus in practice this week.
  • Wisconsin - The Fighting Fickells looked good in his debut.
  • Iowa - Same as usual, great defense and questionable offense. A play in the first half stands out to me. Iowa ran a screen to the left. Two O lineman ran right by the safety that ended up making the tackle. That epitomizes the Iowa offense.
  • Michigan State - They did what they had to do with a directional Michigan school. Didn't watch, so this is simply a guess.
  • Maryland - Ditto
  • Minnesota -  Hard to rank them much higher than Nebraska, but they did win.
  • Nebraska - Played a hard fought conference game. They showed some promise.
  • Rutgers - Looked good against a conference opponent.
  • Indiana - Either their defense played well, or the tOSU offense is just not were it needs to be. The offense couldn't get out of its own way.
  • Illinois - Played a good MAC team and almost lost. Hard to rank them any higher right now.
  • Purdue - Pulled defeat from the jaws of victory.
  • Northwestern - Rock meet bottom.

Last week in parenthesis

  • MICHIGAN (1) - not overly impressive, but no reason to change
  • OHIO STATE (2) - not overly impressive, but no reason to change
  • PENN STATE (3) - if Michigan and Ohio State look the same, I'll probably move them up to #1
  • WISCONSIN (4) - not overly impressive, but no reason to change
  • IOWA (5) - not overly impressive, but no reason to change
  • MARYLAND (7) - just jumped Minnesota by default
  • MINNESOTA (6) - their bad quarterback was slightly better than Nebraska's bad quarterback
  • MICHIGAN STATE (9) - much more convincing MAC win than Illinois'
  • ILLINOIS (8) - much less convincing MAC win than Michigan State's
  • PURDUE (9) - thought I'd drop them for a Group of 5 loss, but what did anyone behind them do?
  • RUTGERS (13) - although a lot of teams might look like that against Northwestern
  • INDIANA (12) - no offense, but looked competent on defense against what tends to be the conference's best offense
  • NEBRASKA (11) - couple of minutes away from looking to be 4-0 going into the UM game.  Choked again, and Colorado looks solid
  • NORTHWESTERN (14) - even worse than I expected, and now a home underdog to UTEP

what'd this list look like if we added USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. Anyone wanna give it a shot?

I'd put Washington probably in that top group.  USC and Oregon would be 5 and 6.  UCLA would probably be right behind Wisconsin

I don't think anyone has a tougher hardest 4 games than MSU with Michigan, OSU, PSU and Washington this year.  Indiana probably should have just made DeBoer the HC back in 2019

1) Michigan: until someone says otherwise.
2) Ohio State: because.
3) Penn State: anyone else stepping up? No. Ok then.
4) Iowa: but only because I don't like people calling me a homer. And Iowa is going to Iowa.
5) Wisconsin: work to do if the Badgers are going to live up to expectations surrounding the new coach.
6) Michigan State: did what is expected for this kind of game.
7) Maryland: see MSU, above.
________________________________________________

Um...

8) Minnesota: a win's a win? And I don't believe in Rutgers.
9) Illinios: I mean, I guess a win's a win? And I don't believe in Rutgers.
10) Indiana: because they scored three against Ohio State?
11) Nebraska: maybe a little better than expected. And I don't believe in Rutgers.
12) Rutgers: I mean, I really don't believe in Rutgers, but I can't really put them any lower.
13) Purdue: really sucks to pay a team over a million dollars to come to your house and beat you. Fresno State has had some moments, to be sure...and this is one of them.
14) Northwestern: ouch.
