Our "single member district simple plurality" has so many unintended consequences. A republic in terms of representation is fine (but imperfect).  But in terms of a vote, yes, I'd like each vote to count equally.  I don't see the harm in that, especially when we know the dynamics of who tends to vote and who doesn't.
