I had a helluva time explaining the Ford presidency to my daughter the other day.  She s at the age of checking out books like almanacs and Guinness book etc.  She couldn't quite grasp a scenario where there s an unelected President.

I wouldn't call it fraudulent - the rules are out there and constitutional - but I will say that it disproportionately weighs the power of small state citizens relative to large state citizens. Small states already have the gift of disproportionate power via the Senate. That was probably enough. The electoral college on top of it arguably gives small states with tiny populations overmuch influence. The concern: What other outcome except an anchor to impede the evolution of political will, which is always driven by popular opinions, which small states *rarely* define?
It was wise for the Founders to partially counterbalance that. But only to a point. Going too far on that is very predictably a bad idea. The question of course is where people draw that line.
