Way back in the day, our laundry department was very high on Kenmore (Whirlpool). We had a laundry with about 35 washers in it, plus 4 Maytags and 4 GEs.
The GEs had a high agitation rate that tore up clothing, and the Maytags were the reverse, the lasted because they barely moved the water around. They would do "suds mapping" with these machines testing new formulas. Women back then still though suds meant something was cleaning (it does with dishes being done by hand).
The guy there told me the Kenmores almost never broke down, and they were running 8 hours a day 5 days a week. That was circa 1980, not relevant to today. I think our washer/dryer is Samsung, so far so good, about 5 years. They barely fit in our laundry room which is quite small.
