anybody coming to Indy for NCAA tourney
« on: March 17, 2021, 09:56:33 PM »
Is anybody coming to central IN for this, or potentially other weekends of the NCAA tourney?

Anybody going to any games?

I went to the afternoon session last Fri of the BTT.  Man was it cathartic, even with Purdue coming up short in OT it felt so good to be back screaming defense and trying to pump the team up in lulls.

I tried to get tix for Purdue-N Texas but the prices are beyond ridic for nosebleed seats in Lucas Oil.  Simply what happens when demand is high and supply is low.

Interesting how few seats have been available on stub hub in more prime locations.  This tells me a significant portion of tickets issued are not in the possession of likely owners at this time.  Will call, onsite pickup for tix allocated to schools and families I'd bet.  For instance 100% of the tickets listed on SH at Hinkle are all 300 level,  ie the ones made available to public at pre-sale.

There are similar inventory situations at IUPUI, Bankers Life and the few for sale at Mackey.  Meanwhile non Purdue Lucas Oil seats are predictably readily available.

I will scout opportunities for Monday and next weekend.  I have plans Friday and vball Saturday.  Sunday will be beautiful.  I would  have zero interest in a free ticket for any game at Lucas Oil.  Great stadium,  for football.  I've been to NCAA T&F meets at Hoosier Dome and sad college baseball at Metrodome,  events with sparse crowds are awful in those places.

If my daughter didn’t have a softball tournament this weekend I’d be tempted to drive up and see if I could find a ticket.  If WVU can get to the Sweet 16, who knows?  I wouldn’t say the odds were good but I wouldn’t put them at zero either.

I went to the FF there in 2010.  I enjoyed the little bit of Indy I saw.

Lower level will go to schools for team, staff and family, maybe a few hundred with I presume the rest of lower arena will go to NCAA sponsors.

200-level courtside was actually really decent for the BTT.   I think the rest would suck.

Sooooooooooooo few tickets were made available to the public in the pre-sales for the Pepsi Coliseum and Hinkle.

Are there any Texas fans on here?

If so, I have front row 300 level corner tix.

Texas - Abilene Christian was one of the games I was "awarded" in trying to guess Purdue's venue during the NCAA pre-sale.

I live about 45 minutes from Indy.

My son is getting some feelers from Morehead State so we're going to their game Friday night. We're going to the Gonzaga game Saturday night. I would have rather gone to some of the others but my kid was adamant that he wanted to see Gonzaga. I guess it's not often that you get to see an undefeated #1 team in person in the tournament so I guess I'll look at it that way.

Isn't the IUPUI home at the Indiana State Fairgrounds?

It is. It's actually a really good arena for basketball. Not a bad seat in the place. It doesn't have a lot of the amenities you would expect from a college arena these days but when I go to games I'm there for the basketball, not for the hospitality.

It is the former home of the ABA pacers.    They did a nice job on the renovations.

And thanks to Jhetfield for dealing the tix for tomorrow's Iowa v Ducks game.  I'll be going with my 12 year old daughter, her friend and her father (Iowa native, UM & NW alum).  I may wear my wife's Oregon Ducks shirt to even out our group, courtesy of our one time CFN Board meeting guest attendee, Duck alum and current county judge in WA.

Lucky for the girls they have one of their remaining e-learning days.  Feels like hooky I told them.

It's great that you got to see a tournament game in person.

Despite getting our tails whipped by Memphis, I really enjoyed my trip to see Texas play in the Elite 8 at Reliant Stadium in Houston back in 2008.

A little unusual (the atmosphere) but you could tell you were at a sporting event with fans.  Nice to have room, leg room and not have 'jack ass' fan so close to you.  There were four very loud Jackass Iowa fans about 20 yards away.  Iowa fans easily the majority in the house.  Interestingly, fans of 'other' teams either already eliminated, or wading time for their own team's games, were in attendance.    NCAA allowing beer sales.      Pretty good game, can't really complain about a 100 point first half total.  Oregon really made Iowa work hard, I thought, and Oregon just had open look after open look, wide open.  2nd half was dunk city for Oregon.
