Samsung Sound Bar and wireless rears/sub today. Place isn't wired for surround and I'm a renter. Needed something good for sports and music. Man, I've spent a lot of money on Amazon lately.

I might need a new sound bar, the old one doesn't seem to fit well with the new 65" screen

The new sound bars with sub are "pretty good" for TV.  They aren't good for say classical music, but better than TV speakers obviously.

It's a good way to up the game on a TV easily.

My main TV has a typical sound system with a typical sub, that I have turned down as far as it goes (crossover and volume) and at times it gets medieval and the wife yells at me.  Movies show up as well as classical music.  The wife likes old school country, oddly enough.

I'm cooking left over flat iron steak with yellow squash, onions, some wine, and something else, yeah, 'shrooms.

Hosting some friends from Cincy this weekend.  He's a huge OSU fan and grad and patent attorney.

And every time I waltz into Costco I see those 80" QLEDZPD78@&( videos running in 4K and just stop and stare.

I told the wife we'll be living underground some day and those things will serve as windows.  You want view?

does anyone get more than 3 channels in 4k? my neighbor got the direct tv 'upgrade' to 4k. got 3 whole new channels, and 1 is a preview movie channel. but damn, do those 1:45 seconds of a movie look good. i won't be making the upgrade until the channels catch up.

and have sound bars come down? last i looked they were still $3-500, and i just couldn't justify spending on something i won't notice much. is there a decent one ~ $100 anyone would recommend?

We are hoping to start testing some 4K streams to our IPTV package.  Was supposed to happen this quarter but looks to be pushed back to next spring.

I've actually been thinking of going the opposite direction from the sound bar... Maybe actually getting a real A/V receiver, with tower speakers, and a powered sub.

"Channels"? What are those? I'm unfamiliar with these antiquated terms :smiley_confused1:
So far I get most of my Netflix, and the few things I watch on Amazon Prime Video, in 4K. I wouldn't say it's especially world-changing relative to 1080p, as the compression is such that the bitrates aren't as high as what you see on those Costco displays. But it's an upgrade.
That's the thing whether it's cable, satellite, or streaming. They all have to manage their bitrates. The "preview" will likely be at a very high bitrate, so the quality will be stellar. But the actual broadcast will be compressed as much as they need to do based on their bandwidth limitations.
That's why I watch my local networks through the antenna rather than through Hulu... It's 1080p either way, but since the towers don't have the same bandwidth limitations as Hulu, they can leave their signal less compressed and the OTA antenna actually looks BETTER than cable/satellite/streaming.

Ed Zachery, we are lobbying our content provider to allow us to set our own bitrates since we are IPTV with Gig fiber to each home.

My new equipment should be coming today. I'll let you know how much different it is from my Yamaha/Jamo system that I can't use here.

New York (CNN Business)For the first time, Amazon is offering free shipping on all US holiday orders in an effort to add new Prime members and juice the season's sales numbers.

Last year, Amazon shoppers without Prime memberships had to spend at least $25 to earn free shipping, but Amazon is waiving the purchase minimum starting Monday to give "customers even more convenient and faster delivery options," the company announced.
