Over Larry Station??
Andre Tippett played DE at Iowa.  Larry Station played LB at Iowa.  So they are not competing for the same spot.

The 80's were definitely the decade of the RB's --- QB offerings are slim pickens.

Flutie or Testaverde, I guess ??  Sheesh.
BYU had some good ones.  Jim McMahon.  Steve Young.

Also there were those that were ok in college but had pretty good NFL careers  John Elway,  Dan Marino.

I was going to mention Elway, Marino, Jim Kelly, Boomer Esiason, Troy Aikman.

Quite a few really good NFL guys.

Okay, let's open it up to no more than 3 selections per poster.

ND sucked in the mid-80s, including the infamous 58-7 loss @ Miami (under the HS HC).
Didn’t they win the MNC in 1988?  Not sure if 1988 qualifies as “mid” 80’s, but it was sure close.

Kind of makes me wonder…how do you determine what constitutes “early, mid or late” decade?  Obviously something like 1980-1982 is early 80’s.  1984-86 is definitely mid 80’s, and 1988-1989 is late 80s. So what do you consider 1983.  Is it mid 80’s, or early 80’s. What about 1987?

Not what?

Mention that there were lots of studs that don’t qualify for the greatest college QBs of the 80’s?

John Elway was a great college quarterback who played for a bad team. His Heisman standing, for a player on such a mediocre team, shows how good he was.

He's asking that we not make a greatest all-time college list based primarily on NFL success.  I agree.

John Elway was a great college quarterback who played for a bad team. His Heisman standing, for a player on such a mediocre team, shows how good he was.

But I do think there's room for guys who were great in college but on bad teams, and then flourished in the NFL.
