Grillrat, I agree a lot with yor second point.

Re: Purdue's inclusion, I'm more wishy-washy. Blough wouldn't make my top 3. I wouldn't take Knox over the other selections. There's an argument for Zico over DPJ and Hopkins over Gentry. I did not focus on OL enough to have an informed opinion. So I guess I would concede better 3rd team inclusion, but that's about it, IMO.

MSU had 7 offensive players make the list last year.  6 of the 7 returned.  1 of those 6 made the list this year...as HM

OK, I'll bite.

A)  Purdue, which had arguably the 2nd best offense in the Big Ten gets exactly ONE player on the entire coaches team?  I know I'm biased, but that seems a hair low.

I'm biased as well, but honestly, I don't know which other Purdue players you would have put up there. I honestly would have put Blough up above McSorley, and I think if you look at it statistically probably a coin flip between him and Patterson for 2nd vs 3rd team. Being biased, I'd put him 2nd because I think from top to bottom [OL, RB, WR] Blough was surrounded by less talent than Patterson, so if his stats were similar it's more deserving of individual honors.
But beyond Blough, I can't think of any other Purdue players I'd argue hard for. Brycen Hopkins was third-team for the media but I'm not sure there's a clear-cut case either way.
BTW @iahawk15 -- you missed Freshman of the Year: Rondale Moore.

I'm asking is any honors such as this have any real value of any kind.  Do NFL scouts pay any attention?  I suppose the players feel honored and get some kind of certificate.  I'm not against the concept at all, but I don't know if it really matters who gets named and who is left out beyond some personal feelings.

I will admit I pay little attention to AA honors and the various national awards also unless an opposing team has a bunch on it.  If say USC has 5 AAs and the Heisman winner, I can figure USC is pretty good, but it doesn't much matter to me if they were properly awarded or not.

I dunno.  I dimly recall getting some kind of All County award in basketball and I kept the trophy around for a few years.  It didn't really mean anything but a free meal at a banquet.

I don't know, mean something to who?  To your NFL prospects?  Probably not.

But what does winning a sales award mean?  Or a spelling bee?  It's still an accomplishment, it's still something you'll always have.  As far as opening any other doors?  Probably not

40 years later at a tailgate party with beer in hand, when it comes out that these guys were former players, the question is, were you any good?  Were you a starter?  Did you letter?

Then you pull the card, "I was 3rd team all-big ten"

yup, had a dern fine season in 2018~

the guys I tailgate with in Lincoln think they remember some things, they do get their names and positions correct.

And there are better helmets and concussion protocol today

Iowa junior TE Noah Fant has declared for the NFL draft and will skip Iowa's bowl game.

When I was young, I of course knew all about UGA players and nearly nothing about anyone else's other than a superstar.  So, I'd notice our "great running back" didn't get All SEC First Team and think it must have been fixed.  Had I looked further, I likely would have seen that Joe Blow at MissState really had an exceptional year.

I'm sure some fans get stuck on the first part and don't look past their noses still.
