Years ago we had a cold stretch in January, six days in a row the T didn't rise above 0°F. The seventh day as I pulled into the work parking lot, the radio said it was 17°F that morning, I got out of the car and unzipped my coat.
Obviously I had layers and a good coat, but that reflects some acclimation I think.
I still have that coat, Columbia, I don't wear it much now. It had a cell phone pocket, the first I'd ever seen, and I thought cell phones were expensive gadgets. So I guess I got it around 1996 or so. I did get a flip phone somewhere about 2000 or so.
Our building supposedly had a rule barring cameras of any kind, that went out the window I guess.
