Iowa has to beat Oregon for the first time since 1949 - the two have only played three times, and not since 1994.

The Ducks have been good, and the only loss is to Indiana, but they’ve been a bit underwhelming. The CFP committee thought so, too, putting them at 9. They got through a horrible Wisconsin team in a rainstorm, were a bit inconsistent at times, and this is their chance to show that they really are the Big Ten’s No. 3 team. They should be a little grouchy after the committee's ranking,we'll find out if that spurs them on

Northwestern and Penn State had good days on the ground vs the Ducks, Iowa will start hammering that away.

I really think the media has been sleeping on Iowa. Are they a national title contender? I don't think so. Are they a tough out for anyone, particularly at Kinnick? You betcha. Indiana has lit up every defense it has faced...except for Iowa.

Against the same teams:
Iowa shredded Wisconsin; Oregon competently and patiently ground out a win (in admittedly terrible weather).
Iowa lost to Indiana by 5, IU scoring the winning touchdown with under 2 minutes to play; Oregon lost to Indiana by 10 in a contested, but not down-to-the-wire game. Both played in their own houses.
Iowa beat PSU by 1; Oregon beat PSU in OT. Iowa got them at home, Oregon had to travel to the other side of the country.
Iowa pulled away from Rutgers in the 4th quarter; Oregon destroyed Rutgers from the jump. Both in New Jersey.

So their results are 1-1 facing the cellar teams, Oregon might get a slight nod in the PSU matchup, and Iowa gets the nod in the IU match up.

At Kinnick, I see Iowa teaching Oregon a lesson about Big Ten football--in Iowa City--in November, and grinding out another ugly, gritty W.

The good news is I'll be happy either way. :-)

I'm never happy with a fOregon win in anything.

At the same time, I'm never mad about a fOregon win in anything - unless it's against my school.
