Damn.  Get Smith some NIL money. Michigan has room and need for both QB recruits and then some.
Carter Smith was never going to play QB here even if he signed. He’s not a good enough passer. He wasn’t ever going to beat out Jadyn Davis, Brady Hart, or whoever Michigan brings in the portal. And definitely not Bryce Underwood if he comes.

He's looking at Wisconsin, Georgia, Clemson and LSU now. The father is pissed. He is NOT going to Michigan.
LSU? Bryce Underwood is currently committed to LSU…..

LSU reached out. They probably know they no longer have a QB commit.

Michigan's NIL is apparently shit compared to other helmet programs, because the largest donors want to put their name on something, or continue to get access, like they do for committing to the program.  If they want to dump whatever money they have into one 17 year old, I would think the other helmet programs would welcome it.

Obviously, comparing it to non helmet programs is a non-starter.  Even having a low NIL commitment is larger than an MSU, or a Wisconsin, or an Iowa.  We've turned college football into an even worse version of MLB.  But I assume the powers that be don't realize how not having a cap, even while having SOME amount of team control has killed MLB

He will be in Madison for the Oregon game, which will hopefully be at night.

Hopefully he falls in love Madison.

That's of no issue with him. Family has money.

money is somewhat of an issue, I'd guess

Lots of families have money, and make decisions to get more

Not worried.

Local news here just reported the decommitment.

I did not realize he was the Florida Gatorade player of the year in 2023.

Not bad for a kid who would never see the field at Michigan.

I'll take it.

Doubt he would’ve beaten out Jadyn Davis or whoever they also bring via the portal.

And 100% certain he wouldn’t have beaten out Bryce Underwood (if he comes) or Brady Hart (if he sticks).

So even if he stuck with Michigan, he’s hitting the portal after a year or two.

Every QB commit is to whoever pays him the most money.  I think at the other positions there are some other considerations.  But quarterbacks are just following the money
