A weird thing is that the Falcons owner has "deep pockets" (Arthur Blank of Home Depot fame).  The soccer team here does well, but of course that's very different.  He's not involved with the Braves.  And yes, they signed Cousins to a "lucrative" deal.

So I looked up pre draft analysis and evidently Atl needs pass rushers and they gave Cousins coin.Belichick's done some dumb stuff but if Penix doesn't pan out this could end in the Half Wits Hall of Fame pix.

Didn't they rob the US treasurey to give Cousins a new contract? Again this forum could come up with consensus picks that would routinely out perform the MOST NFL Front Offices
having a back up plan for Cousins is a good thing

Backing up the brinks truck to get him? - crazy. IMO the quintessential average NFL career QB. These guys may make Jimmy Hasbeen look decent...naw just kidding

I would guess most Falcons fans are critical of the choices.  I don't pay much attention to them, or the NFL.  I overhear folks laughing about them at times.

when is the last time a QB in Minnesooota succeeded ???

they even killed Farve
Favre was like 60 years old when he played for the Vikings, and he had a phenomenal first season and was off to a nice start the next year until his body started breaking down and he fell off the cliff.

Cousins was a good starting QB, can’t say otherwise. Cousins never had the elite athleticism or arm talent- he’s done about as well as he can with what he has. He’s been a successful starting QB in the NFL. He’s just never been the very elite. Which is OK. Few get to that level.

Of all the QBs taken in the 1st round, JJ McCarthy is by far going to the best situation. And a lot of times in the NFL, it’s all about the situation a QB walks into. Kevin O’Connell is a QB friendly coach, they have an elite young LT to protect the blindside, the best WR in the NFL, a very good TE in Hockenson, a really nice #2 WR coming off a great rookie year in Jordan Addison, and they signed one of the better RBs in the NFL in Aaron Jones.

If I was betting money on which QB would have the most success within the first 2-3 years, I’d bet on JJ purely because of the situation he’s walking into.

Not that I care anymore about Illinois and their tax machine, but this is a good start.

No taxpayer money should be spent on a team worth multiple billion, anywhere.
