Better get your work in early, because just going .500 in conference play is going to be a grind

After competing as an independent since joining college Hockey's division 1 ranks in 2015, ASU Sun Devils hockey has been voted into National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

"Arizona State will join Colorado College, the University of Denver, Miami University, the University of Minnesota Duluth, the University of Nebraska Omaha, the University of North Dakota, St. Cloud State University and Western Michigan University in composing the NCHC's membership."

The Sun Devils only hockey tournament appearance is 2019.

The reconstruction of Mariucci Arena is complete. This spring, UMN Facilities Management tore out the cooling plant and rebuilt the ice surface so that it's narrower than the previous Olympic width of 100 feet. I believe it's 90 feet wide.

As for the team, enough guys came back so that it's national title or bust. That NC game last April was a hard one to eat.

The fact that half these teams should be in the CCHA, and the other half in the WCHA?

Well, there's that and also the fact that UW hasn't won an NCAA title since 2006.

I mean MSU last won one in 2007, which makes them the most recent, and Wisconsin #2

Minnesota - 2003
Michigan - 1998
Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State - never

The difference is that Wisconsin has generally sucked donkey balls since they last won.

Hopefully Big Mac can fix hockey in Madison.

The addition of the new coach should help matters.

Helluva resume at a school with not even close to the resources that Wisconsin has.

I mean, since then, Wisconsin has made the NCAA tournament 5 times, including a national championship loss.  MSU has made it twice, and last won a postseason game in 2008.  They haven't even made Frozen 4 since that championship in 2007

Minnie's last was 2003.

UW 2006.

But they are still bluebloods because they have a lot of titles. Minnie has 5, UW has 6.

Michigan has 9. Most in the Big 6. Denver also has 9.

Mac needs to fix hockey. I think he has a start.

MSU 5-2 over LSSU in the opener.

Weird game.  MSU completely dominated the first two periods, and the 3-0 score midway through the 2nd reflected that.  But 2 stupid turnovers, led to a breakaway and a penalty shot, and it was suddenly 3-2, despite a significant shots and faceoffs advantage.

Then, instead of regrouping, LSSU absolutely dominated the 3rd period, almost completely negated what was a 14 SOG advantage for MSU.  But MSU tacked on 2 goals and won 5-2.

Final score may have been about right, because MSU dominated 2/3 of the game, but just very weird how we got there
