Lulz.  That Heisman vote is Exhibit A on the sheeple voters being led by ESPN pulling strings all season long and nothing more.

I'm curious why you're using career stats instead of season stats.  The Heisman isn't a career award.

It's okay, we all know that Tim Tebow wears Vince Young underoos.  No shame in that.
Ehh, wasn't it?  Sometimes?  Didn't claim to be, but sometimes definitely was.

Anyway, I'm focusing on who a guy was, good and bad, in total.  The better an individual season he had, the worse the rest of his career was, if we want to focus on good Heisman call/bad Heisman call.

Reggie Bush won in a landslide WHILE his teammate finished 3rd as well.  Leinart's votes took away from Bush's, as relatively few that they were.  You can claim it was all ESPN narrative, but why do they care if a USC RB wins it or a Texas QB does?  Why Bush?
Name another guy with 8.7 ypc on 200+ carries.  Ever.  I'll hang up and listen.
Bush wasn't a good returner in 2005 with that extra RB volume, but he was elite the year before.  Lazy Heisman voters probably lumped that in, as they're prone to do.  Not saying it's right, but it's common.

He also had a cannon of an arm.  Lamar doesn't have half the arm Vick had.

And Vick was so far ahead of his time, they didn't know how to design an offense around him.  OCs were so far behind his talent at the time.  I would love to have seen him with Cam Cameron, who, for all of his faults, did a great job designing an offense around Antwaan Randle-El, who wasn't as good at anything as Vick was.
yeah imagine him in an Urban or RichRod offense.....jesus f'n christ would be impossible to stop that guy. we all missed out. Vick really was a unicorn. we may never see that explosive and elusive an athlete like that again with that kind of insane arm strength at QB.

Husker football FANtasy draft: Special teams

Back in the day, June 1, 1995: Nebraska's Darin Erstad is top pick in MLB  draft
Back in the day, June 1, 1995: Nebraska's Darin Erstad is top pick in MLB  draft

I remember hearing that Darin Erstad was going to join the football team as a punter.  At the time, I thought it was odd that the best baseball player at Nebraska was going to be a punter and not a “skill” player, but Erstad proved quite skilled.  He averaged over 42 yards a kick, made some PATs, and a couple of field goals.  I wholeheartedly believe he does not receive nearly enough recognition for his role in the 1995 Orange Bowl.  But let’s be honest, he’s on this list for one reason:  Double Extra Point!

Comparing two eras of Huskers

1987 Nebraska vs. Iowa State football - HuskerMax game page

The original “End Zone” Jones, Keith was a very successful back at Nebraska.  An injury to Doug DuBose made him a starter his junior season, and he never looked back, leading the Big 8 with 830 yards and 14 touchdowns en route to All Big 8 honors.  The speedy I-Back, another product of the Omaha Central pipeline, had a big encore as a senior.  He put up 1,232 yards and another 13 TDs, picking up all conference honors again.  Jones left NU third on the all-time rushing list.

one of my favorite all-time Michigan players. still to this day think he should've been a RB full-time. that was his highest potential, best natural position imo. he would've been the best RB they had since Wheatley or Biakabatuka had he stuck to RB imo.

he didn't have the height or length you want to see in a CB (like Will Johnson does- that dude is PROTOTYPE) and he played for two different coaching staffs at 3 different positions in 3 years. He started out as a CB as a true frosh in '14 but got hurt very early on then redshirted. Jeem came in 2015 and they move him to safety, then in 2016 they moved him to a hybrid LB role where he was a destroyer of screens and surprisingly effective pass rusher on blitzes.

would've been a BEAST at RB imo. perfect size/build for the position and he was so explosive and accelerated so fast. was not a little dude by any means at 5'11, 215ish and built rock solid muscle. they didn't have anyone in his universe athletically on offense either in 2015 or 2016. he could've been the home run big play RB Jeem's teams lacked until Jeem got Corum and Edwards.
