Often projected as a top ten draft pick, he fell considerbly down the ranks.  I am curious how he does in the pros.  Nakobe Dean.

What is the rule, if any, about numbering by position?  Can a QB in college be #84?  Can an OL be #13?

O Linemen should be numbered between 50 and 79 as those are non eligible numbers if they are not lined up on the end of the line. If they do line up in an eligible position (end of the line or in the backfield), they have to be declared to the official who then anounces that the player is eligible to receive a pass or direct hand off. But i do't know that there is a rule that a player lining up on the line, not in an eligible position, has to be numbered with a non eligible number (50-79).

So, is 80-99 different from 50-79?  I knew about the eligibility thing.

Five men in the backfield etc., covered receiver.

Yes, 80-99 are considered eligible numbers. And 4 in the backfield is the max, although you can have less. But you have to have at least 7 on the LOS with at least 1 person in the backfield, in a position to receive a snap, which means you have to have at least 8 men on the field for a downed scrimmage play. Kick offs have no such requirement.
