Out of curiosity, now that it would be a five-way tie, how does MSU do if they make up and beat Minnesota?
These could probably be LSAT problems but here goes:
If we had a five-way tie for 2nd through 6th at 12-8 between IU, IL, NU, UMD, AND MSU the rules stipulate that we start with H2H2H2H2H:
I start with the thinking that if all games were played (26 game double-round-robin) all of these teams would win the home games and lose the road games amongst each other so they would each go 4-4. Then I remove games not actually played. Fortunately, I have a handy-dandy little table where I track those:

So:
- 3-4 IU: They lose the projected home win over UMD.
- 3-2 MSU: They lose the projected home win over IL but lose projected losses at College Park and Evanston.
- 3-3 IL: They lose the projected home win over UMD and the projected loss in East Lansing.
- 2-4 NU: They lose the projected home wins over UMD and MSU.
- 3-1 UMD: They lose the projected home win over MSU and the projected losses in Champaign, Bloomington, and Evanston.
Then we have to account for upsets involving these five teams, they are:
- NU over MSU in East Lansing on 12/4
- NU over IU in Bloomington on 1/8
- IU over IL in Champaign on 1/19
Indiana's two upsets cancel each other out. Northwestern picks up two wins and eliminates two losses. MSU and IL each lose a win and add a loss, thus:
- 3-1 Maryland
- 4-2 Northwestern
- 3-4 Indiana
- 2-3 MSU
- 2-4 Illinois
Thus, the seeds would be:
- #2 Maryland - was #2
- #3 Northwestern - was #3
- #4 Indiana - was #4
- #5 Michigan State - was #6
- #6 Illinois - was #5
So all-in-all, the only change is to flip-flop MSU and IL for the #5 and #6 seeds.
FWIW, I think MSU would actually be better off with the #6:
- They play Thursday either way. As #5 they'd get the 12/13 winner (probably UNL) and as #6 they'd get the #11/14 winner (probably PSU). I see that as roughly a wash.
- On Friday, as the #6 seed they'd get #3 NU. As the #5 seed they'd get #4 IU. I'd prefer to play NU if it were me.
- On Saturday as the #5 seed they'd probably get PU. As the #6 they avoid PU until the CG and probably get UMD.
