I'm not sure if it's rock or pop or just derivative Beatles but IMO Oasis was either the last great mainstream rock band, or the best pop "band" since, I don't know, ABBA?

Oasis doesn't hold a candle to REM.

Agree with bwar, disagree with Marq. :)

I liked Oasis well enough, but REM is an all-time great, not just a top 10 in one decade kind of great.

However, I will say that I think Document is REM's best album by a pretty good stretch.  Not sure if we'll see appear it in the 80s bracket or not, but we should.

Worried that 90's and on is going to be mostly 90's. Really hoping to see some of my favs from the 2000's. Arcade Fire's Funeral, Arctic Monkeys Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, and The Strokes Is This It jump to mind right away.

As for this battle im going Oasis fairly easy. R.E.M. never did much for me.

Oasis. REM never really did it for me. I liked maybe two of their songs.

Oasis first 4 albums were really good. Could pretty much listen to all of them start to finish. Just play the album and let it go, no skipping. I can't say that about too many bands/artists period. Definitely can't say that about REM.

Yeah, that's how I feel too.  I'd maybe put an REM best of on, at best.  Oasis' best three albums have no bad tracts.
