Keep in mind the game isn't at 1045 to punish the road team do you really want to play in the hot sun of Tempe in early Sept?  Neither does ASU.

I do recall UGA getting a 7ish pm est kick at ASU about 10 years ago.

N had UCLA play at 11 am a few yrs ago,   Ucla won after sleeping in the first half
Yeah I was at that UGA@ASU game and it was indeed Richt that pushed for the afternoon start instead of a late evening start. Seems he felt the heat was less of an obstacle than the time difference. UGA won relatively easy behind Knowshon Moreno and AJ Green's coming out party.

That would help, though staying reasonably sober all day in Nashville is a challenge unto itself
No shit. The motto there is "Y'all can't drink all day if y'all don't start in the mornin' ".

Is there an O/U on the number of officials that will be suspended after this game?

I do get it, and hell, tv dictates it anyway.  I just hope the return game is at noon.  If MSU loses, it's not going to be an excuse, I just think you might as well get every advantage within the rule book you can.  How many points is it worth?  Who knows.  But I don't think it's nothing, travelling either way.

As for the game, the late start and the heat do help ASU and while a win wouldn't surprise me I do think Mich St is rightly favored.

While ASU thoroughly spanked their cupcake, something they haven't done since 2013, they still had a few glaring mistakes and miscues that a team like MSU would absolutely expose.

The DL looks fantastic and actually has some depth and the corners are solod, but while talented the linebackers are very inexperienced and mistake prone, and our safeties still scare me big time.

On offense our OL looks good, not great but far from the liability it has been in years past. The RBs are inexperienced but very promising, and the WRs are excellent along with having a solid senior QB slinging the ball. I am still unsure about the OC, however.

We got a solid kicker and punter (if he stays healthy) but we had waaaaay too many special teams penalties last week. Better clean those up.

Generally the Eastern teams do okay in the first half of these late western games, but then they slog through the second half as it is ridiculously late by then according to their internal clock.

So the key for MSU is to build a sizable lead in the first half.

Arizona State is apparently 9-0 all time in true home games against Big Ten teams.  Yikes!

The game that stands out in my memory was in 2004 when eventual Big Ten co-champs Iowa came to Tempe and got absolutely drilled 44-7.

will ASU finish the season ranked? That's the real question.

Because MSU is 2-11 since 2007 on the road vs opponents that finished the season ranked. Those two wins came in 2015- vs Michigan on the flukiest play with 8 seconds left in a game that I think I've ever seen- and vs Ohio State that year in a game where Zeke only got 10 carries.

Pretty interesting stat. For all the stuff we've heard about Michigan's record vs ranked opponents on the road since 2007- aside from OSU- the rest of the B1G ain't looking much better in that same timespan. MSU, 2-11. Wisconsin, 0-12. Penn State, 3-15.

So if you think ASU will finish the season ranked in the top 25, history tells you MSU will probably lose.

Yep, I remember that game.  Blowouts of that magnitude are incredibly rare in the KF era.  The only other game that really stuck out like a sore thumb was 2014 @ Minnesota.  Neither '04 ASU nor '14 Minnesota were particularly powerful those respective seasons, so it makes those losses genuine head-scratchers (sure, getting the "L" is one thing, but the way they lost is something else entirely).

But I can understand why ASU is so successful against the B1G at home, even when the road team might actually be stronger.  First, the games are usually played in September, so that gives ASU an inherent advantage in the sense that it gives B1G teams less film to study.  Secondly, ASU tends to air it out more than the average B1G team, so even if there is film to study, actually defending it is easier said than done.  Thirdly, the time difference and climate do play a factor.  UGA came to Tempe and won because the Dawgs are never hurting for talent, and it's also crazy hot in the Deep South in September so it's nothing they're not used to (it may be a different kind of heat, but heat is still heat, and it sucks haha)

I don't think ASU is a top 25 team this year, possibly top 35 though.

Yeah, teams whoa lose home games tend not to wind up ranked.
