The B1G seems to have little middle, if you will, some really good teams and really bad teams and not much in the 20-40 category.  Good stuff.

That's what it was last year too

Also, I'll be travelling the next few days, so this will go on hiatus until Monday.

Brother's bachelor party in Denver.  Should involve mostly brewery tours, with a spattering of grilling and golfing.  So yes, hopefully.

My opinion, which is worth the amount I am being paid to write this, is that the only really bad Big Ten team is Illinois. This is supported by the 8-1 2017-18 bowl record, among other things, and I believe the same will hold true for the 2018 season. The Big Ten has the best coaches in NCAA football not named Saban. This has not always been the case.

I am referring to teams ranked in the 60s and higher in ELA's preseason polls as being "really bad".  Perhaps that is not the proper term.  I'm sure he will have four teams in the B1G East in the top 15 or so, but not many, if any, 15-30, which is where 8-4 type teams end up in general, teams that win 3 OOC games and manage 5-4 in conference.

To end up ranked 65th for example for a P5 team suggests more of a 4-8 kind of result.

In other news, it's good I think to see Purdue with some life, and evidence again that a good coach and do great things.

I lean to thinking Nebraska will be a lot better next season.  I can't figure Michigan out at all.

Wisconsin keeps on churning out solid teams that perhaps are just short of playoff material.

I don't know about 4 B1G East in the top 15. I'm thinking 2.

PSU could take a step back, but they have recruited well so we'll see. Michigan lost 5 games and still doesn't have a QB it trusts.

MSU will be solid if it stays healthy and OSU is OSU.

I think this has been the knock on the B1G for some time now.
Top 4 in the B1G in "my" recent memory:
1) OSU
2) Wisconsin
3) PSU
4) MSU
- Nationally we get dinged for 2 non-helmets sitting up top.

5) M*ch*g*n
6) Nebraska
- Are these 2 performing at Baron status or am I just giving them a helmet bump?
7) Iowa
8) Northwestern
- Iowa feels like the only actiual very good but not great team (baron,) the others are fallen helmets, and an overreaching underdog (or cat.)

likes to get beat by 40+ on any given Saturday...
9) Maryland
10) Minnesota
11) Purdue
12) Indiania
13) Illinois
14) Rutgers

The B1G seems in better shape than the SEC anyway, which may resemble the old "Big Two and Little Ten" days now.

One could view LSU and Auburn as somewhat better than average perhaps and South Carolina is showing a bit of life.  Florida and Tenn of course are on hard times.  'm stl amazed that the Vols were 0-8 in conference play.

Maybe at "Vandy" in year one he'd survive.

Whence goeth Purdue?  They showed signs of life last year.  One time deal or real improvement?

I'm sure they're coming up soon. The schedule does no favors this year. And the defense, which was a strength, graduated quite a bit. I could see a regression this year since the talent level hasn't come in for Brohm yet.
OOC we've got Mizzou and BC, who are not elite teams but they're both P5. At least they're both at home. In conference some of our easier games are on the road (Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota), with hard games (OSU, Wisconsin) at home.
It'll be a BIG uphill battle to try to get to bowl eligibility again.
Brohm got himself an extension, but if he can go 7-5 regular season, you might as well build the statue now.
