'Difficult' to see Jeremy Pruitt keeping his job in 2021

Despite being several weeks removed from the end of the 2020 season, there is still some speculation about just how secure Jeremy Pruitt’s job is as the head coach at Tennessee. On Monday, ESPN’s Chris Low gave his take on that, and he doesn’t think the current situation looks good for Pruitt.
Low joined ‘3HL’ on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville to discuss whether Pruitt will be the Vols’ head coach at the start of the 2021 season. Low started by noting that Tennessee hiring Mike Glazier’s firm to represent the school in the midst of an ongoing compliance investigation was a bad sign for the head coach’s job security.
“Mike Glazier’s group is the one assisting Tennessee — been retained,” Low said. “If you Google ‘Mike Glazier,’ he’s got a long long successful history of representing schools. In fact, he and the late Mike Slive started the first sports law firm to help schools that had NCAA matters or compliance issues. You don’t spend the kind of cash to bring in somebody like that unless you’ve got some things you feel like are pretty serious. To help mitigate. To get to the bottom of it. This is not something where they just brought him in two weeks ago. I think they’ve been talking to people since November.”

Now, the question is whether Pruitt will survive this investigation and make it to the 2021 campaign as the team’s head coach. Right now, that doesn’t seem likely to Low, who believes the school could be looking into whether it can fire Pruitt for cause or reach an agreement on a settlement. Regardless, he thinks coaching candidates could be wary of coming to Knoxville if Pruitt is fired.

“To answer your first question, is Jeremy Pruitt going to make it? Looking at it from where we are right now and talking to some people, I think it’s going to be difficult,” Low said. “I really do. I don’t think you ever say never, but it looks like the way this has all gone down and the way this thing has dragged out, that it will be difficult for him to be the head football coach. I don’t know if Tennessee is trying to get its ducks in order to fire him for cause or to get him to take a settlement.

President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”
