One thing's for sure, I'll be able to get super cheap tickets to UT-TAMU on T+1.

If I actually wanted them...

I can get cheap tickets to most Tech games this year, and can walk to the stadium.

Feels really weird at this point in the season not to have played Florida.

Next year we don't play either of the Alabama schools.

This new perma-rival schedule somehow fixed the intra-conference series infrequencies and simultaneously made everything worse.

I'd prefer a small conference of 9-10 teams where you play everyone every year.

Nobody asked me though and we've obviously ended up where we are now.

I think the SEC has done a nice job of balancing the historical rivalries, with the ability to play everyone in the conference 2/4 years and home/away.  It's kind of clunky, especially for schools that had either 1 or 4 teams they really liked playing every year, but I think they've done a decent job of scheduling, with the hand they were dealt.

I also think that for some schools they could end up rebalancing those perma-rivals.  For Texas, three perma-rivals works out perfectly to our three historical rivals.  For other schools, some of them are a bit forced.  But I don't see any reason those couldn't be changed up every few years either.

I've said before that this was a good solution given the number of teams we have now.  It actually manages to bridge more gaps than the old 12-team conference had with 1 cross-division locked-in opponent, which meant each team from one division only played all the other division's teams home/away every 5 years.

And it went about as well for LSU as we could expect.  The problem for LSU is that it's nobody's must-play game, except for probably Ole Miss.  Lots of teams have an in-state they want to keep, which fills up one one of their slots.  LSU isn't that big of a deal to a lot of teams to warrant taking up one of their other 2 slots.

I think LSU fans would generally prefer some rank order of:  Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, A&M.  We got two of those, though the degree to which that satisfies will depend on which order of those 5 one personally holds.  But on the whole, 2 out of that list is pretty good.

At a glance, it seems like we could've gotten one of the Alabama schools, because their third team surely can't mean more to them than LSU does.  BUT, of course it's not that simple.  Once you replace one of their teams with LSU, you have to adjust the removed team's 3 opponents, and so on and so on.  I haven't sat down to see if it could've worked out as well for everybody.

But it would've been nice to keep Bama or Auburn.  Just have to enjoy years like these when we get to play both of those bastards.

It's also weird that Tennessee isn't matched with either UGA or UF.  The UGA/UT and UF/UT games were annual must-see-tv since before I was a teenager.

The Florida/Tennessee game was more intense and meaningful to me personally, than the Bama game.

That is sacrilege to anyone about 5 years older than me and up in the Vol fanbase.

50ish and under remember the 90's tilts with Florida as the pinnacle of Vol football in our lifetimes.  The mid-50's and up remember Bama for the same reasons in the 70's and 80's.

Don't get me wrong, I still love kicking the Bammers in the teeth!  Last Saturday was very satisfying.

I wish they'd have asked us.  They being UT and OU.  I loved the play everybody deal we had going.

Both schools have made the playoffs since moving on, but I wonder if it is truly going to be a positive in the end, in the way of playing for nattys.
