Well you'll get no argument from me that it's a terrible thing that Texas isn't piling up baseball titles and dethroning USC. :)

Our David Pierce experiment was costly and unfortunate.

So just so I’m understanding this correctly… USC, as in University of Southern California ( a directional school) is the king of CWS titles?  I had no idea. How many do they have compared to the rest ?

They have 12Twelve.

For comparison, when LSU and Texas played in the Finals in 2009, and LSU caught up to Texas to tie for second place......they each had six at that point.  Half of USC's, with a seemingly insurmountable six to go.

Ugh.

Is that maybe one of those weird stats because I really don’t think they are a power program anymore…when was their last title?

iirc, it was 1998, kind of in the middle of when LSU began gobbling up its first 5 in a quick span.  They don't seem to be very successful since then.

Kind of a similar record is Texas' number of CWS appearances.  They nearly lap the field when it comes to making it to Omaha.  Another record that may never be caught unless UT goes legit dormant for decades, which seems unlikely.

USC won a ton of theirs in the 60s and 70s, including 5 in a row from 70-74 and 6 of 7 from 68-74.

Not sure anyone will ever catch them but LSU might get one closer this afternoon.

Congrats LSU. Not gonna lie, it kinda irks me we took 2/3 from you guys this year but lost to Missouri or whoever it was that was winless.

About a week ago I re-read through this entire thread and it was amusing to track our thoughts on our teams.

utee94 seems to me to have had a better overall read on his team, while in hindsight some of my comments were probably overly pessimistic.  Although, some of these guys did improve and wound up performing more consistently than they started out.  One thing I didn't account for which I may have to do going forward is giving credit to CJJ's instincts and calls.  He certainly seems to pull the right levers at the right times, much better than his predecessor CPM.  They may be better than I gave some of them credit for but I still don't think this team gets anywhere near an NC if not for CJJ's pitching decisions, timely pinch hitting, etc.

I get it.  It wasn't even a fluke, imo.  They could play again today and A&M would probably still win.  Texas too.  And we got clobbered by Auburn.

If Arkansas is cursed, we seem to be on the other end of the spectrum.  I said this was the okayest team I ever saw make it to Omaha.  This is still the okayest team I ever saw win a NC, at least in some ways.

I'm still high from yesterday's win, so some hubris feels in order.

If anybody is capable of going on a 90's-style tear and piling up some NCs in quick order, it seems like it would be the combo of CJJ at LSU.  We're 4 away, and for the first time ever I feel like it's realistic I could see it in my lifetime.

Gotta keep somebody from poaching him.

When Texas played LSU we had 1.75 good pitchers.  A few weeks later we were down to 0.75 good pitchers.  Can't win a lot of games that way, I think we'd maybe take 1/3 at this point.  Or none.

But that's okay, this team had a mediocre roster even before injuries to our best pitcher and the 2024 B12 PotY.  They over-achieved all season long and it'll be fun to see how they fare as the talent improves.

I'll attempt to stay humble by imagining Hooky is still with us, explaining to me how LSU is not really a blue-blood and chiding me for thinking otherwise.

First NC in the 90s, right?

New money, for sure.  How gauche.
