I got to watch a bit of the lsu/bama game on replay, and I did catch the Arkansas game this week. This will probably sound strange, but these losses have been much more palatable b/c I love it when LSU plays good defense. I don't know where it came from, or how they managed it considering they're down 8 starters on that side of the ball and a ton of these kids were playing high school ball until recently, but they've really found something with these bear fronts and zero blitzes.
They went from pretty bad, to one of the best looking units in the conference, overnight. UGA is better (duh), maybe Bama (?, I haven't got to watch them a lot), but this suddenly started looking like some of the old great Tiger defenses. A team like UGA up until recently was worlds better than where we were at. Now I'm like, hmm, give these kids a chance to grow up, and some depth, and they might could be back around that elite level. And some coaching (also duh).
I'm not sure how long it can continue....there is a solution to this defense if you can pull it off, I was surprised ARK didn't try more of some plays they ran that are designed to take advantage of that defense...and then mostly, if you run this, you're really putting pressure on your corners. And, well, LSU has lost all its starting corners and nickels. I'm really amazed how well these young kids held up vs. Bama and Arkansas. But I do wonder if it can continue.
I don't think we'll get to a bowl, unfortunately. This pathetic offense can probably come up with enough to beat ULM (I hope), but I don't see a way for them to get past A&M.
