Official.

O will not return for 2022, but will finish the season.  Pat my myself on the back, as I thought, it's not all stuff on the field.  His personal behavior has run afoul of the administration.

Odd time to publicize it.  Seems like an invitation to the team to fold and screw up the recruiting class more than necessary.  Guess we'll see.

And because LSU is LSU, the "brass" is already interfering with some pretty dumb ideas/candidates.  I'm gonna get my popcorn, Louisiana politics in the state university can be great entertainment.

I remember that.  That was in the middle of a weird streak for the UF/LSU series wherein it seemed every year Florida played LSU without arguably its best player.  Sometimes the QB was out, sometimes someone else.  In 2013, I forget his name, but UF had a fantastic DT, probably the best in the conference, who played all games prior to LSU, but not vs. LSU d/t injury.

I don't remember all the names, but for 5 years from 2011 through 2015, Florida always had a key guy missing.
73 Sharrif Floyd?
2  Dominique Easley?

The year we lost to GA Southern, we had "#36 white dude" playing LB.  We had guys playing who weren't on the official roster.  Imagine your first-ever playing time being against a well-oiled option team with a RB who started a few years in the NFL (McKinnon).

Easley is the one I'm thinking of.  iirc, he got hurt either at the end of the game before lsu or during the week of practice.  May have been lost for the year, don't remember.  But he didn't play vs. LSU.  He would've come in handy on day Jeremy Hill had a big day.

Just leave Lane Kiffin alone. I want him at Alabama when Saban says good bye.

It appears he's winking at Baton Rouge.  He's on Woodward's list, I don't know if he's on his A list or B list.  I don't care all that much for the guy, but I guess he'd be a good coach if he committed to keeping a good DC around who can recruit.  How often does it happen that a coach leaves one job for a another school in conference, in the same division?  Tuberville?  Did Nutt sit a year after Arkansas before Ole Miss?  That can't be common.

He's not on the new prez's list though.  Remains to be seen who's going to get their way here.  This guy is enough to make me long for the days of F. King Alexander.  LSU may have traded the good 'ol boy network for the woke mob.  Ugh.

Coach O himself was at OM before LSU (with some time in-between).
Kiffin is just turning this into an extension.

In the middle of a train wreck, I have to give a pat on the back to Damone Clark, LB, who is playing like a 1st Team All-American and if he doesn't get overlooked due to being on a crappy team, possibly the Butkus award winner.  He leads the country in tackles with 100 through 8 games, including 20 against Ole Miss yesterday.  He's the one guy who's where he needs to be, reads his keys, fills the right gaps, gets sideline to sideline like a beast, and wraps up and tackles with form.  He's also the one veteran who hasn't regressed since Aranda.  Whatever he's doing to tune out the poor coaching, I wish he'd share the secret, because there are other players on the team who used to play well but now suffer from a clueless DC.

Probably wouldn't have quite the numbers if the defense were better because I suspect some of his stats are cleaning up the mess in other positions who don't do their job.  But he's a good example of how so far the team hasn't quit (as far as I can tell), they just aren't good.

work and school are crazy at the moment, but here's a quick drive-by to tell you all your teams still suck.

I didn't watch LSU/Alabama, but WHATTHEHELL?  That box score looks all kinds of messed up.  Relatively even in yards, top, 3rd down conversion.....  SIX yards rushing, Bama?  Seriously, what the hell.

I saw a few clips a guy had put together of the game...I see what O meant when he said they installed 8 new blitz packages.  Umm...because we only just now needed them for Bama?  More than that, it was a very different looking defense...more like the Aranda squads with a lot of 3 down linemen with under fronts.  Looked like they finally used Damone Clark in the way that suits him--which, he was recruited for Aranda's 3-4, and while I hate to say it, he'd be better off at a place like Alabama or UGA, he's  better fit in those systems.  Not that he's exactly struggled this year.

Still....there's too many other data points in the season.  That has to be fool's gold to some extent.  Alabama must have problems or else just played a crap game.  Not really for me to say, not having watched it.

Holy crap! LSU's defense played inspired football, if they had played that way all season, O would still be there.

I got to watch a bit of the lsu/bama game on replay, and I did catch the Arkansas game this week.  This will probably sound strange, but these losses have been much more palatable b/c I love it when LSU plays good defense.  I don't know where it came from, or how they managed it considering they're down 8 starters on that side of the ball and a ton of these kids were playing high school ball until recently, but they've really found something with these bear fronts and zero blitzes.

They went from pretty bad, to one of the best looking units in the conference, overnight.  UGA is better (duh), maybe Bama (?, I haven't got to watch them a lot), but this suddenly started looking like some of the old great Tiger defenses.  A team like UGA up until recently was worlds better than where we were at.  Now I'm like, hmm, give these kids a chance to grow up, and some depth, and they might could be back around that elite level.  And some coaching (also duh).

I'm not sure how long it can continue....there is a solution to this defense if you can pull it off, I was surprised ARK didn't try more of some plays they ran that are designed to take advantage of that defense...and then mostly, if you run this, you're really putting pressure on your corners.  And, well, LSU has lost all its starting corners and nickels.  I'm really amazed how well these young kids held up vs. Bama and Arkansas.  But I do wonder if it can continue.

I don't think we'll get to a bowl, unfortunately.  This pathetic offense can probably come up with enough to beat ULM (I hope), but I don't see a way for them to get past A&M.
