Of course, this is the time of year where everyone starts poll watching and getting jittery. That's what makes CFB enjoyable, frankly.

Luckily, Texas has three games remaining, and two of them are "prove it" games. Yeah, I think if Texas went 2 for 3 in those games that they would still have shown they're one of the top 12 teams, but they sort of lost the benefit of the doubt at Florida. Bad losses should count for something too, and that was a bad loss.

Yeah pretty dumb for OU to be ranked ahead of Texas.  I guess the reasoning is that OU has a better loss than Texas' loss to Florida.

Except that better loss is to... Texas.

Anyway,  poll voters do something stupid, shocking.

I remember 2007, when we beat Mizzou during the regular season, then beat them again in the Big 12 CCG, and, with both teams having 2 losses, Missouri was ranked higher. Their two losses were better than our two losses (Colorado and Texas Tech).

Yup.  Ranking by "quality of losses" whilst ignoring decisive head-to-head victories is one of the many stupid things that voters do.

Anyway, I expect the CFP committee rankings to have it right, tomorrow.  They actually watch the games and aren't quite as stupid as the mediots and talking heads.

Quality of loss is what put Alabama in the 2011 BCS Title game instead of Okie. St, and nobody needs me to re-litigate that fiasco.

It's useful as a data point, perhaps even as a tie-breaker in some order of tie-breakers.  But it's just one data point, of which all others favored the Cowboys over the Tide.

Welp, here it is.  Texas-Georgia #3, this time in Athens.

Horns' offense is playing better of late.  Defensive secondary looks completely lost without Taaffe.  I'm expecting another Texas loss, probably low double digits.

I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

I'm not sure 2007 is a good citation for anything, lol.  Crazy year.

So I think the top bowl for SEC teams that are not headed to the CFP, is the Citrus bowl?

Looks like Spurrier's words might still ring true, you can't spell Citrus without UT...

You know what would be great?  If UT got into the CFP and A&M and UT met in the playoffs. I half jokingly suggested, when it was a mathematical possibility, that I wanted to play once in the regular season and once in the CCG. But meeting in the playoffs would be awesome too.

I looked at the playoffs list yesterday and was somewhat underwhelmed. ND is in, supposedly. And Duke is in the ACC CCG with 7 wins.

I always liked Swoopes.  His physical talent was undeniable, but he ended up being sort of a tweener.  And as mentioned, Texas went through 4 OCs while he was on campus.  It just never quite worked out for him.  But he was a heck of a player and a heck of a team guy.

Sounds like he's adjusting well to life after football, I'm glad to hear it.

I can't believe it's been that long since he was vying for QB.
