One of the multitude of YouTube talkers--Josh Pate, I think--was predicting a Florida win. He thought that it was a perfect trap game for Texas, given that the game was in the Swamp, that Florida would play better than it had so far, and that the Red River Shootout was a week away.

Josh Pate has no connections to OU, but I think he has a pro-OU bias. Still, I thought that his logic was sound.

The RRS is not going to be a trap game. Both teams will be fired up.

P.S. It is odd that Texas and Florida had never played each other before last night.

This Texas team just isn't very good.  They don't do anything well.  They're painful to watch.  Gonna be a long season.

I'm proud of our fans.  While we haven't been elite for a while, we're very much not used to being 1-3.  Literally not, like since the 80s.
They came out in full throat and the defense mostly stayed energized.  When you have a QB's first SEC road start to be in the Swamp, you want to show it's not all talk.

Still, it is slightly strange that Texas and Florida never played before last year, either in a bowl game or non-conference game. 

I’d have to go back and look but I know A&M and UF played in at least one bowl game before the 80’s. Outside of that I’m not sure. 

I had a list of all the teams A&M has never played and I have forgotten who they are.  I think Wisconsin is on the list, there’s only about 5-6 teams (D1) total.

A&M played Florida only twice before SEC days.

Curious we would play a long away game in 1962.  I think the scheduling back then was much more wonky, a lot of one-off's and not planned years in advance like they do now.

The one thing that stuck out about the UF-UT game was the fact that they were all over Arch, multiple sacks, always under pressure.  Several times I remember thinking, he should have already gotten rid of the ball.  I think as a football fan, you can kind of mentally time how long any QB has to hold the ball and sure enough I found myself thinking over and over, too late should have thrown followed instantly by  either a sack or hurried, off-target throw.  It seemed like Texas didn't even try the short game, dump-off routes, etc.  The running game was non-existent as well.  Both factors led me to think the OL in Burnt Orange isn't as good as advertised.  

I'm not sure how to feel about next weeks A&M/UF game.  Either we get a revitalized UF that found their mojo and will come in believing they can win, or we will get a team who shot their best shot all season, and now return to the mean.  

FWIW, A&M started very slow vs MSU.  Finished the game strong, but the first half we did almost nothing on offense.

I think that's less damning at home than on the road.  Part of what helped Florida beat UT was getting up early and the crowd staying lively.

If A&M stats slowly, assuming Florida doesn't score a bunch, they'll be fine.  

Florida's best bet going forward is simply maintaining intensity on defense AND being a run-first team.  Let Lagway find easier success by requiring the defense to focus on the run.  We have the OL, we have the RB....just need to use them.

I was unprepared to see both Texas lines completely fail. When the game started, I thought the DL was just taking a moment to get their feet under them. Even when it was clear that Lagway wasn't able to move at all, the Texas defense couldn't affect him. 

Can't put the blame on Arch at all for the offense. Every play in the 1st half shows the Texas OL letting free runners come screaming in right past the Center and Guard. I mean, not even slowing down. Yes, there were stunts and loops. Those aren't arcane defensive techniques. They're standard plays that anyone in a collegiate program for more than 6 months should recognize. I know the OL is a work in progress, but a new group of raw players should have performed better.

With some player changes, the 2nd half wasn't quite as bad, but nowhere near FBS level passable. UF knew Lagway was damaged goods, knew they could control the Texas offensive output at will, and chose to shorten the game to limit risk. Texas stepped up their play and tried to make it a contest.

I'm not resigned to a doomed season, but a light needs to go on in a few of our players. Otherwise, I'm accepting of handing the reins to some younger OL players and seeing if their youthful enthusiasm will win over. There's a lot of high end scoring talent that will stand around hoping for a couple of seconds of life, otherwise.

Yeah, like I said, this team just doesn't do anything well. Not sure it's fixable this season.

Texas currently has 4 top 10 teams on its schedule.  Are we done with the "weak schedule" bulljive or is that just a trope that room temperature IQ idiots are going to keep repeating for eternity?
