Let's say the odds of winning those games are:

90% Florida
60% Ole Miss
70% Tennessee ...

... the odds of losing one then would be over 60%.

UGA has looked inconsistent this season, to me, pretty good, then remarkably bad.
OM is dog shit (Copyright Mdot21).  The only reason why they get any press at all is because of Lane Kiffin and the clown show he brings.
Sure, they are capable of beating UGa, but only if they play their very best, and Georgia only plays 70% of their best.  My guess is Georgia wins that game like 45-15 or something.

I literally do.  Not that I feel like I've mastered statistics.

To me, the tricky thing about odds of winning is they are by definition Bayesian, but people tend to think about them from a frequentist perspective.

"If A played B  ten times, A would win seven of them."

Of course, they don't play ten times, and the compound statistical formula doesn't really apply in real life.  We can justifiably update our prior assumptions and assign new odds as new data presents itself.  I'm not sure, statistically speaking, it's meaningful to say anything about games in frequentist terms.

Which means I basically agree with utee here.

Which hopefully buys me some time before I get the "The statistics thread is over there --->"
The statistics thread is... oh wait... we're good here. :)

Georgia vs. Ole Miss (Nov 9, 2024) Live Score - ESPN

The ESPiN match up predictor actually favors Ole Miss, 53% chance of winning.

Ole Miss played LSU even, in an away game, before losing.  I don't think they are really that awful.

OK but I'm talking about coke not Coke.  Mostly RC and Dr. Pepper for me, back in the day.

Anyway I'm not sure how we got started talking about the Georgia-Ole Miss game on the Longhorn Football thread.  I blame Georgia fans, they always make everything all about themselves.

We should discuss this in more detail in this thread perhaps.
