Well sure, you could just say "the entire 2005 team" if you wanted.

That's allowed, if that's your pick.  Just trying to think of individual phases of the game and remembering the best they had to offer.

I think I liked last year's DL better than 2005, but maybe I'm just not remembering the 2005 unit well enough.

Our tight end play was a large reason for the 2005 teams success

saved our bacon many times that year

iirc, David Thomas made some catches down the stretch during UT's 12-pt deficit comeback.  Not like amazing catches or anything, but routine grabs that get you first downs in a situation like that feel huge, and are huge.

I dont understand why teams like Texas dont use their TE more then they do.

Are you talking about right now?  Because right now, we're using the heck out of Helm.  He's the best TE we've had in over a decade.  BUT... defenses are now accounting for him and doing everything they can to stop him.  In theory this should open up other options, but in practice over the past few games, it hasn't helped much.

Tennessee in 1938 I think it was didn't allow any points before their bowl game where they faced the all time greated USC team.
Friend, let me tell you about the 1917 and 1919 Aggies.  Undefeated, and unscored upon.  The 1918 team?  They went to WWI.

The NCAA recognizes 1919 A&M as a national champion, but not 1917.  Temporally displaced anti-SEC bias.

Y'all should just do like Bama and claim 1917 anyway, and also some other years with a poor case.

The NCAA doesn't actually "recognize" any D1-A/FBS football championships.  It just lists all of the various ones available-- including the rando "100 years after the fact computer algorithms"-- on its website.

Personally, I think that if your team didn't earn the recognition at the time, get the trophy or the ring or at least team photo in the newspaper article in the current news medium at the time, then it's not a national championship.

Oh, almost forgot. Even the coach, Dana X. Bible, fought in WWI.

Agreed, except that I don’t think anybody awarded anything in those years. I’m not even sure when they started awarding a championship, except I know the AP started in 1938 (TCU). A&M won the 2nd.

Exactly.  If it wasn't a thing then, then it's not a thing now.

Retroactive.

It's a thing.

Eh, I'm neutral on it.  Not going to go about waving any banners or the like, but if the team earned it, even retroactively, what's the harm?  Lots of things happen in this world that don't get recognized until some time after.
