How they stack up

1.  LSU......their worst defense since '08, but they keep scoring, so...
2.  Georgia
3.  Alabama....w/o Tua and w/o a lights-out defense, they're merely mortal.
4.  Florida
5.  Auburn
6.  A&M
7, 8, 9.  UK, UT, MIZ....throw 'em in a hat.  UK's season has been skewed by literally not having a QB, UT has been better than awful lately, but Missouri has shown a higher ceiling than either of them.
10, 11, 12.  Carolina, OM, MSU...........very bad seasons for programs that are 2nd-tier to begin with

I was reflecting that the preseason pronosticators were fairly close this year, no real shocks, I think.  LSU nipped Bama of course.  The Vols could end up 8-5.  Missouri has a record below expectations.  UK stepped back.  USCe is not very good save that one upset.  Florida was about on par with expectations.

Tennessee is going to look back on this season and point to the two losses in the first two weeks over teams they should have beaten.  If they win those games they are 7-3 right now and probably ranked either around 25 or just outside of it with a shot at a 10 win season if you count the bowl game.  Still, though, i think Pruitt has them headed in the right direction with a little momentum at the end of the season which is more than can be said of the previous coaches. 

Mizzou- I'm a little surprised how bad they've been over the last month or so.  They have been outscored 100-27 over their last 4 games.

One other thing....I'll be glad when 5 and 3 are no longer on Auburn's defensive line.

Yeah, the Vols with a possible 9-3 record would be feeling right pert, but that obviously is not in the cards.

Might they be somewhat decent in 2020?

They lose Callaway, Juan Jennings and Daniel Bituli. Other than that they get pretty much everyone else back.  Young team it appears.

I'm probably going to regret posting this tomorrow but I think A&M will give UGa all they can handle tomorrow.  I know UGa already had their boneheaded loss of the season to USCe but I think we will be a tough out for them.  If Mond doesn't have more than one stupid turnover and we are able to stop the run I think we have a shot.  We've already played two number one teams this year (Bama, Clemson) and have probably one left (LSU).

Yeah, A&M made it very interesting late as UGA simply can't move the ball and Fromm had a horrible game.

UGA needs to pass more on first down and not go so obviously conservative in the 4th quarter.

You think maybe Tennessee is now closer to being at an A&M level than a Kentucky/Mizzou level....but then you see Guaranatano's big day was against Mizzou's backup CBs (and a true FR 3rd string) and Mizzou's top 2 WRs were out.  So while they did what they should've, a close win vs a similar-quality opponent looks a little less shiny.



Meh.  The Vols are bowling.  Good for them.

The Vols have beaten who they should beat to be a half decent team after the 0-2.  That is notable I think.  The fact it could be notable is notable.

Yeah in looking at Tennessee's schedule, they have beaten a two teams with winning records. 
UTC is 6-6
MSU is 5-6
South Carolina 4-7
UAB 8-3
Kentucky 6-4
Missouri 5-6

Still, they have something to build on.  they'll beat Vandy most likely and have a chance at probably some team like Louisville in the Music City Bowl.  But, still a ways to go to compete with top teams. Average margin of defeat against top 10 teams this year was 27 pts.

We noted preseason they had an apparently light slate.  I credited them with 4 wins OOC and then 4 in conference, maybe even 5.  After the 0-2, they were looking more like a disaster, 4-8 maybe, but they actually showed a pulse.  It is a notable turn around I think, even if it is not some sign of resurgence.

Mizzou --
LSU ++
Florida +
MSU -
Arky -

I had Florida more at 9-3 with their OL situation, Mullen has done a good job after losing a QB.  I though Mizzou would have a better record.  I give LSU two marks just for being undefeated and blowing a lot of teams out.  Everyone else looks about like what I expected, though the 0-2 Vols would have been ---.
