Remember this post from Dec 2018?  https://www.cfb51.com/sec/sec-divided-into-pods-instead-of-divisions/msg90950/#msg90950

I thought it was an excellent idea and still do.

I looked up the UT/Bama rivalry.  I was suprised to see that Bama leads by exactly 20 games with 7 ties.  Much closer than expected especially considering that Bama has won 12 in a row dating to 2006.

Just curious if the UT fans on the board really want to play Bama every year?  I realize that the pendulum has swung back and forth throughout the history of the series and will eventually swing back to UT but I would certainly be glad if we didn't have to play Bama every year.  I would like to see Miss State or Ole Miss as one of our permanent opponents instead of Mizzou.

A&M has an obsession with replacing Texas with LSU, they get what they want there too.

I'm not sure that is completely accurate.  LSU is the closest school by a pretty significant amount, we recruit many of the same players, and we have the most history with LSU.  Couple that to the fact that we are still new to the SEC and trying to find our footing.  Not to mention how many LSU and A&M fans are in close proximity to each other in their social and work lives.  I think it's the closest thing to a natural rival we have with maybe the exception of Arkansas.  But just like Ark, we have not won enough to make it to that point.  That will change soon.  ;)

But I don't think we have an obsession with replacing Texas with anybody until we change our fight song and stop giving the horns down on nat'l TV when we are playing schools not named Texas.

Florida's been getting screwed since the last expansion anyway.  No reason to stop now, I reckon.
How's that?

SEC teams' top 3 conference teams played from 1933 (formation of SEC) through 1991 (Expansion 1):
Alabama:  Tennessee (58), Vanderbilt (56), Miss St (55)
Auburn:  UGA (58), Florida (56), Miss St (52)
Florida:  UGA (58), Auburn (56), Miss St (43)
UGA:  Auburn (58) & Florida (58), Kentucky (45)
Kentucky:  Tennessee (59), Vanderbilt (49), UGA (45)
LSU:  Miss St (58), Ole Miss (57), Kentucky (42)
Ole Miss:  Miss St (58), LSU (57), Tennessee (49)
Miss St:  LSU (58) & Ole Miss (58), Alabama (55)
Tennessee:  Kentucky (59), Alabama (58), Vanderbilt (57)
Vanderbilt:  Tennessee (57), Alabama (56), Kentucky (49)

Obviously, the red/bold are the teams that have a cross-division rival in their top 3.  And these are the same 4 teams that held the rest of the conference hostage.

The green are the other, real options there were.  Miss State freakin' played everybody every year, and they were just an afterthought and paired with Kentucky because they were probably the last 2 picked for the kickball team.

And yes, sorry to harp on it again, but the powers that be are woefully lazy when it comes to scheduling.  They want what they want and then they drag their feed and throw their hands up when it comes to the rest.
