A Texas Institution Spreading out through the SEC...Buc-ees

Saw an article that Buc-ees is opening a store in Georiga.  Now they've got stores in Florida, Alabama, and soon to be Georgia.  If you see one make sure you stop in.  Plenty of fuel pumps, cheap gas, clean restrooms, and lots of great things to snack on or take home.  It was started right here in my hometown.

PS...the owner is an Aggie!

I do not understand the fascination with Buc-ees.  I know people who literally will drive for miles to go to one.  It's a frickin' gas station.

There was one off I-10 in Luling, TX that I'd stop in sometimes on my way home to San Marcos from Louisiana.  I'm not kidding when I say that place was always packed like Disney World, and both women and men were dressed up, like Ole Miss fans going to a game.  This was evidently some sort of experience....some sort of social outing.

A few years ago when I moved my stuff out of storage in San Marcos I got my uncle to help me, and his only stipulation was that I stop at that Buc-ees so he could look around while we filled up.

I really, just truly, don't get it.  

It's a gas station.

Lots and lots of fuel pumps, cheap ice (.99 per large bag), cheap soft drinks (I think their 40 OZ is .79), lots and lots of clean restrooms, hardly ever a wait in line to check out and well trained staff.  Their gas is usually the cheapest or equal to the cheapest.  

Since the chain started we have had two or three bucees in my hometown (pop 4,000) since the 80's (these were not the super bucees) so I'm used to it.  I honestly don't really get some of the madness either but people that visit the area rave about the experience.

Sounds good to me, I don't think they can come close to Costco gas prices though.  We go out of our way to fuel up there, usually saving $.40-50 a gallon for premium.

There is usually a wait at Costco of 3-5 minutes.

There won’t be a wait at bucees.  What are you paying for gas now?  I noticed you said premium. Not sure what premium costs but right now our gas is hovering around $2 per gallon for 87 octane. Of course we’re in the Houston non attainment zone so we have to account for 10% ethanol and other oxygenates to reduce the pollution. One thing bucees does offer is zero ethanol ( for a hefty premium) and diesel exhaust fluid at the pump.  I do drive a diesel (Ram 1500 3.0 L) and it’s a very nice thing to have.

Our car requires premium, which at Costco is around $2.50, versus over $3 elsewhere.
